Kenneth Anger is asked about Jimmy Page and why his guitar playing deteriorated.
The witch’s mark is generally described as a natural physical abnormality, most commonly in the form of an extra breast (polymastia) or extra nipple (polythelia), the latter being more common in men rather than in women and a phenomenon that occurs regularly in a small percentage of the population. On the other hand, the Devil’s mark (stigmata diaboli) sometimes called a Devil’s seal (sigillum diaboli) was commonly a scar, birthmark or other blemish on the skin
In the Middle Ages there arose the Jewish folkloric myth of Lilith, the queen of the demons, wife of Satan (or of Samael, depending on your source). The myth of Lilith is almost identical to the Islamic Satan/Iblis myth. Lilith and the Islamic Satan are both said to have defied God in precisely the same way, namely refusing to bow down to Adam. For this and other reasons, Lilith is seen, by some, as a feminine aspect of Satan. In my standard ritual, the greeting to Lilith is intended to be appropriate regardless of whether you see Lilith as an aspect of Satan or as literally the wife of Satan.

Rosaleen Norton was born in New Zealand in 1917. She was an amazing artist with a strong connection to the otherworldy planes. She was ostracized for her pagan beliefs which were well ahead of their time. Several of her exhibits were charged with "obscenity" resulting in court trials. She died a recluse.

Presented here is a chapter discussing Lilith, taken from Hebrew Myths: The Book of Genesis by Robert Graves and Raphael Patai. raves and Patai have collected traditional Hebrew myths that amplify (and sometimes radically alter) stories found in the Book of Genesis. This chapter, titled "Adam's Helpmeets", deals in part with the Lilith myth.
Writing under the pseudonym Robert Cochrane, Roy Bowers has been a source of inspiration for the 1734 Tradition and others. Presented here are scans of the original letters provided by Ann and Dave Finnin of the Roebuck.
There are those that say the devil hears his name. If this is so, then writing about him is a damning proposition. But in his place the devil is, to say, one hell of a metaphor.
Night. In a high-vaulted, narrow Gothic chamber FAUST, restless in his chair by his desk....
This is one of the only public domain sources of information on the religious beliefs of the Yezidi, a small group originally from the northern region of Iraq. Although they speak Kurdish, they are a distinct population from the Kurds. The Yezidi are notable because they have been described as devil-worshippers, which has naturally led to constant persecution by the dominant Islamic culture of the region.
Those who readily claim the title of Witch find as they make their way round the crooked path of Witchdom that it is a path often wrought with loneliness as the late Robert Cochrane, an astute observer and practitioner himself, commented upon during his correspondence with Joseph Wilson. In that *lonely battle of the self* as Robert called it, wisdom is only to be found by those who have the ability to weather the internal and the external battles that will enable one to achieve that deeper victory of the spirit.
The evil deity known as the Devil is not universal, but certain characteristics of his can be found in the gods of every religion. Some of these are iconographic similarities, others relate to the god's function within the mythos. To understand the emergence of the Devil as the personification of evil, it is necessary to consider the divine personages in world religions who prefigured him.
The word ‘Black’ within the context of writing here is in reference to the hidden nature of the Sinister Craft, it is both the depths of initiation which runs deep in our souls, and the future possibility by the atavistic urges which may be harnessed into powerful tools of refining and strengthening our consciousness. The Order of Phosphorus is an initiatory guild of practitioners of sorcery from a Left Hand Path point of view.
The Podcast for the Outcast, the Wise and Cunning folk in general
In case you were wondering where the name "The Crooked Path" comes from, it is an old-fashioned phrase used to describe the path of the Traditional Witch or Cunning Man. There is a lot of Lore attached to the phrase, but in typical "hidden in plain sight" fashion, the phrase itself can be found occasionally in books as far back as 100 years ago, and has been in the public domain long before that. Not a common phrase, but one that is, never the less, in common use.
Dion Fortune was an occultist the likes of which legends are made. Born in 1891 (some say 1890) she participated in the modern revival of the magical arts, much of which she learned, distilled, reformulated and brought forth anew in her own teachings. She was by nature a dramatist with a penchant for deep thoughts, with that sensitive yet tough character England often produces. She studied with, taught or bumped horns with the most well-known occultists of our century: MacGregor Mathers, Robert King, W.B. Yeats, Aleister Crowley, W.E. Butler, Gareth Knight and Christine Hartley are but a few of the names associated with Dion Fortune’s remarkable path. And, of course, she wrote magical and occult books in both fiction and non-fictional formats that give us a look into her world. Many have cloned her work, some have done a better job of one or rarely two books, but few have come close in communicating esoteric understanding.
We've listed the written works of Dion Fortune in the order that they were written, often as articles in her magazine or for private circulation, although some had to wait some years before appearing as published books.
A brief teaser from the forthcoming movie about Aleister Crowley.
A video of occult artist H R Giger commenting upon his work.
In the late nineteen seventies there was something of an occult convergence upon the English coastal town of Whitby. The reason for the movement of so many occultists, ex-hippies and pothead pixies, could probably be identified only by a thorough examination of the occult current of the time, along with a good analysis of the spirit of the nation. The result, however, was not only that there was a sizeable occult population in the area, but that many other occultists were in the habit of visiting the place.
Quite simply the best introduction to magic I've ever read. Seriously, this is a must-read book. Rightly hailed as one of the ur-texts of Chaos Magic, S.S.O.T.B.M.E. does much to banish the bullshit around so many explanations of 'magic'.
The Book of Results was first released (by Ray Sherwin's own publishing venture The Morton Press) in 1978, and it has the dual distinction of not only being the first book to explain and refine the now infamous sigil magic method of Austin Osman Spare, but also to be one of the earliest texts of the nascent Chaos Magic movement.
"The Book of Pleasure" describes Spare's magical system and its philosophical basis. In it he introduces an ultimate called "Kia" (analogous to the "Tao", the Cabalistic "Unmanifest", or Jung's "Pleroma") from which all manifestation stems via a process of refraction through the principle of duality: we perceive, for example, black and white because they are manifest as a polarised pair, in the Kia they exist only in potential, being undistinguished and so unmanifest. It is clear from elsewhere in his writing that Spare was acquainted with Boehme"s tract "On the Supersensual Life", where the disciple asks the master how he can come to know the supersensual life and is told "when thou canst throw thyself into THAT, where no creature dwelleth, though it be but for a moment..."
Recently I drew a comparison between the two systems of ideas arising at the same moment in history (1904): Einstein's theories of space-time relativity, and Austin Osman Spare's theories which I described as "a relativity of belief". It was interesting that the year of the writing of the Book of the Law, i.e. the first year of Crowley's New Aeon, should have been the time when traditional ideas of "the absolute" came under attack on two fronts.
There are a number of references in TMROTB666 to Gomez but no real information other than sexual acts performed. Having searched for more information regarding her I have come up with precious little although I am in no doubt as to the part she played in assisting Crowley towards the grade of Magus, hence my interest in this little known Scarlet Woman.
There's a great deal of curiosity about the sex magick taught by Aleister Crowley and his tradition. Of course, everyone is interested in sex, but the veil of secrecy further tends to tillitate and intrigue. The reasons for secrecy are becoming increasingly archaic in this era of increased openness: when even right-wing Christians peddle sex manuals for the born-again, and Leather Faeries speak freely of their unspeakable acts. Even in his day, Crowley often regretted the need for secrecy, and did everything in his power to leave a bright thread through the labyrinth. But he was bound by his vows of silence to speak only obliquely. It is the hope of this writer, unfettered by oaths, that he can provide a few keys which might otherwise elude the curious student. This paper attempts to set forth the critical facts about the Thelemic sex practices in a clear and concise fashion. No true secret can be revealed in words, so no great harm can come of this revelation.
This manuscript is not a history of Tantra, although it will dwell much on the past, and also write a new history for future generations (if there will be any future generations). This manuscript is more in the nature of a perfunctory peep at a remarkable phenomenon in Mankind's progress and development. The spark of Tantra was ignited in India, but was exported and burst into flame in other countries. Although Tantra had a firm spiritual basis, it was not so much a religion as a way of life. There are now many indications that several Tantrik communities existed in different parts of India, communities which shared vast areas with other Hindu communities, and lived in harmony with them.
The Libri of Aleister Crowley
My feeling on encountering Spare's work in 1983 was that here was someone who was prepared to cut through all the nonsense in magic and say 'Here's how I do it - how are you going to do it?'; I thought he made it blindingly obvious that he was forging a totally personal path to realization, to vision and imagination, and that he expected the rest of us to do the same. But my influences had mostly been artists, writers, musicians out of the subculture - from the Decadents onwards - not magicians at all, so perhaps I had a fresher eye when I came to study magic
The Order of the Star called S.S. is, in respect of its existence upon the Earth, an organised body of men and women distinguished among their fellows by the qualities here enumerated. They exist in their own Truth, which is both universal and unique. They move in accordance with their own Wills, which are each unique, yet coherent with the universal will. They perceive (that is, understand, know, and feel) in love, which is both unique and universal.

Aleister Crowley (Edward Alexander Crowley) was born 12 October in the same year as the foundation of the Theosophical Society (1875), at Leamington Spa at 11.30pm. He was therefore a Libran with Pisces moon and Leo rising. Contrary to popular legend, he died on the 1st December 1947. A review in Cambridge University magazine Granta of 1904 provides some guidance on the pronunciation of the great man's name: 'Oh, Crowley, name for future fame!/(Do you pronounce it Croully?)/Whate'er the worth of this your mirth/It reads a trifle foully.' The myth of the magus has grown to prodigious proportions in the half century or more since the old man's death. Crowley is now firmly established in the popular mind as a folk hero (or anti hero?), transmogrified to an icon on a spectrum somewhere between 'the sandman' (Clive Barker version) and 'the gringe'.
From Cults of the Shadow by Kenneth Grant: Machen, Blackwood, Crowley, Lovecraft, Fortune, and others, frequently used as a theme for their writings the influx of extra-terrestrial powers which have been moulding the history of our planet since time began; that is, since time began for us, for we are only too prone to suppose that we were here first and that we alone are here now, whereas the most ancient occult traditions affirm that we were neither the first nor are we the only ones to people the earth; the Great Old Ones and the Elder Gods find echoes in the myths and legends of all peoples.
As a Witch and high priestess of Sheffield, Yorkshire, England, Patricia Crowther has since the 1960s been a predominant spokesperson for Witchcraft. She has authored several books as well as giving many media and lecture appearances. She was nitiated into the Craft by Gerald B.Gardner, being considered his spiritual heir, has worked promoting the renaissance of the Old Religion in order to benefit and enlighten humankind. She had formed flourishing covens throughout the United Kingdom.
The blackout or as it is commonly referred to, the death posture, is the technique that the late Austin Osman Spare refined for his own magical use and which has been adopted by chaoists, solo and group, world wide as its popularity has been increased by the works of the IOT over the last decade or so.
sigil (pronounced /'sɪdʒ.ɪl/ or /'sɪg.ɪl/; pl. sigila or sigils) is a symbol created for a specific magical purpose. The term sigil derives from the Latin sigilum meaning "seal," though it may also be related to the Hebrew סגולה (segulah meaning "word, action or item of spiritual effect"). The old norse binding rune is an example of the idea. However, sigila differ from runes as they are designed not to represent an alphabet but are created to form a glyph, composed of a variety of symbols or concepts which carry intent and inherent iconic meaning.
