Man in standoff with PG police at Contee Rd & Rt-197

Prince George’s County police are in the
midst of a standoff with a man who barricaded
himself in his apartment building 9000 block of
Contee Road (at Rt 197). He has a shotgun and
possibly a handgun. He fired one shot out a window
after police arrived at about 6:47 pm June 11,
2008

PG Police Officers Who Shot Escape from Laurel Hospital

George’s County Police Department identified the
officers involved in the shooting of Kelvin Poke
as Corporal Chris Smith, a 19 year veteran,
Corporal James Simms, a 10 year veteran, Corporal
Adam Wyatt, and Corporal David Cheatham, both
eight year veterans. The officers, assigned to
Patrol Services, have been placed on
Administrative Leave consistent with Departmental
policy. The preliminary details of the shooting

Prince George’s County Executive Jack B.
Johnson announced yesterday the closure of nine
nightclubs in the county, saying they are magnets
for violent crime. March 30, 2007
“I am putting all clubs on notice: Either
obey the law and run a safe, orderly entertainment
facility in our county, or you will be closed
down,” Johnson said.

Laurel sees rash of airbag thefts

Airbag thefts, which first became a serious
problem in the city about a year ago, are surging
this month after no reported cases in January and
February, Laurel police said. Twenty airbags were
stolen from 10 vehicles so far this month in
Laurel City.
