Restaurant renaissance energizes Crystal Plaza
http://www.gazette.net/stories/062107/laur...
Doc’s Grille, a gourmet burger and hot dog
restaurant that was scheduled to open this week is
the latest in a series of new eateries that are
turning the Crystal Plaza shopping center in South
Laurel into a destination for high-quality
take-out. ‘‘It’s a place you can go
expecting to get an inexpensive but nice meal with
a variety of choices,” said Garold Stone who
blogs about South Laurel. ‘‘You don’t have
to make up your mind before you go.” June 21,

Sapphire Indian Authentic Restaurant and Lounge
http://www.sapphireindianrestaurant.com/
Welcome to our Sapphire Indian Restaurant, is
famous for its incredibly bold flavor, a result
achieved through the combination of various
spices. It is a cuisine that has gained favor with
people over the last several years as they begin
to realize that Indian food does not necessarily
mean curry. There are several creamy cold
beverages to choose from — among our favorites,
the Mango Lassi, a combination of mango juice and
yogurt; and the Indian City fruit punch, a variety
of juices, ma…

Mango’s brings Tex-Mex to the mix
http://news.mywebpal.com/news_tool_v2.cfm?...
With a Chili’s nearby and no shortage of
Mexican restaurants already in the area, chef Alex
Laredo decided to try something different when
Mango’s Grill opened its doors on Route 1
last February.
Laredo said he chose to serve Tex-Mex, a
combination of Southwest-American and Mexican
entrees. So far, Laredo said, his decision seems
to have been a good one.

Popular seafood eatery leaving Laurel
http://www.gazette.net/stories/042408/laur...
Laurel’s Bay’N’Surf Restaurant, which closed
in February 2007 due to an electrical fire, will
reopen within the next six months—but not in
Laurel, owner Suzanne Edelmann told The Gazette.
While Edelmann said the menu and recipes would
remain the same at the new location, she said the
new address would be about a 15- to 20-minute
drive from the old one on Baltimore Avenue. She
declined to disclose the exact whereabouts of the
new location. Apr 24, 2008

Laurel restaurant mixes Thai, Indian menus
http://www.gazette.net/stories/032008/ente...
Longtime residents of Laurel have known their
local Sapphire Restaurant for years, from its
previous incarnation as an Italian-American
restaurant to its transformation to an Indian
restaurant seven years ago. But about three years
ago Sapphire introduced a full Thai menu alongside
its mostly North Indian specialties. And today,
owner Arun Kansagra said, both menus, particularly
the ever-changing lunch and dinner buffets, are
extremely popular. Mar 20, 2008

Sapphire Indian Restaurant (and Thai)
http://www.roguefood.com/forums/index.php?...
We’ve tried Udupi Palace, Bombay Bistro,
Bombay Indian Restaurant. But we thought we could
see if there were some local places in Laurel, our
current ‘home town’ to see if we could
get an acceptable fix very close to home. Sapphire
was a winner for us. Oct 28, 2007

Say No More: The Noodles Here Are Handmade to Order
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...
Although some describe Da Rae Won as a
Chinese-style Korean restaurant, Choe says it is
really just home-style Korean cooking. The more
familiar Korean restaurants, particularly those
with barbecue stations set into tables, are of a
different type, even in Korea, more like a
steakhouse.

Pr. George’s Reataurants Learning Service With a Smile
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...
Jack B. Johnson, the county executive, said
recently that he was concerned about the quality
of service in some Prince George’s
restaurants. And with upscale eateries and one of
the largest hotel and convention centers on the
East Coast opening next year at National Harbor,
many in the county are hoping that a new program
will go a long way toward tackling what Turner
called a “longtime source of
frustration” — shoddy customer
service. June 24, 2007

New Caribbean cafe in Crystal Plaza
http://news.mywebpal.com/news_tool_v2.cfm?...
You walk in the door and immediately hear the
sounds of Caribbean music. Customers, some tapping
their feet, wait in line to place their orders at
a long counter filled with a variety of entrees
and vegetables. On the left, an ocean scene,
complete with palm trees and a bright
orange-and-yellow sunset takes up an entire wall.
On the right, a painting of a large turtle fills
another wall, appearing to swim through waters
that are several brilliant hues of blue. And then
the spicy aromas hi…

Betting on Barramundi, the Green-Friendly Fish
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.p...
Josh Goldman is betting you’ll wake up for
barramundi. In fact, he’s betting big bucks
on America’s largest inland fish farm, in
the hope that consumers will love barramundi, a
fish that can be grown with relatively little
environmental impact. As Susannah Lee of member
station WFCR reports, Goldman says his factory is
an environmental success. Nov 29, 2006
