If I was going to go through the trouble of doing this in ASP.NET, I was going to do it right and, while it is possible, I didn't want to call the COM objects that we used the first time around. This is .NET after all so naturally I wanted to use the .NET Framework's XmlDocument object. Aside from using the .NET object, this part of the script is basically the same. We create an XML object and load an XML file into it either from the remote server or from the file system. Now to the formatting. Since I was basically starting from scratch anyway, I once again figured that I should take the time and do it right. So instead of all the string parsing and editing I did via VBScript the first time around, this time I set out to create an XSL stylesheet to handle the conversion from the RSS feed's XML format to the desired HTML format. The bad news is that my XSL skills are very weak and, while I knew how to use a stylesheet, actually writing one took me a lot longer than it should have. The good news is that after several tries I finally did get a couple different ones hammered out so you can see how easy it is to change the format of the resulting HTML. All you do is load a different stylesheet... it really couldn't be any simpler. The last issue that I feel I should mention is that this time around I didn't have to write any caching code. I simply set the page to output cache and presto... instant caching... isn't ASP.NET great!

Three columns. One fixed-width sidebar for your navigation, another for, say, your Google Ads or your Flickr photos—and, as in a fancy truffle, a liquid center for the real substance. Its wide applicability in this golden age of blogging, along with its considerable difficulty, is what has earned the layout the title of Holy Grail. ----------------------- Artículo y tutorial de como crear con hojas de estilo una página con tres columnas, dos fijas y una central variable hasta ocupar todo el espacio disponible de la ventana del explorador.

As a Web (2.0) consultant and analyst (about me), I track a variety of market segments and products. Luckily for me, nowadays I don't have to do as much grunt work on gathering high level product data as I used to. There are a plethora of product lists and data about web 2.0 companies on the Web now, unlike 12-18 months ago when I had to track it all down myself. Of course my job as a researcher and analyst is to go much deeper than the high level product data - I then need to turn it into practical insights, recommendations, knowledge, etc.

Late last year Drew McLellan posted a great article on 24ways.org called Edit-in-Place with Ajax. Using Flick as an example and Prototype to do the heavy lifting he showed how to edit text inline. Like many other people I’ve been fascinated by this approach to altering text. After playing with Drew’s example off and on I finally sat down and decided to generalize it a bit more to make it easier to use. Before I get into the code let me say that I’m a complete amateur when it comes to JavaScript. If you are looking for someone with serious JavaScript fu go talk to Simon Willison. First go get a copy Prototype. Then you’ll need the Edit In Place javascript file. There is an example page that you can play with. I tried to make it as simple as possible while still providing a reasonable amount of flexibility.

The above quote, taken from w3c.org, is one of the reasons for this site. Whilst I agree that it is a mechanism for adding style to web documents, I do not agree that it is a SIMPLE mechanism. It can be very complicated, as I found out when I took my first steps down this path. So I have created this site in the hope that it will help newcomers to CSS and show old hands that it is more than just a mechanism for styling your documents. It is oh so much more. Because CSSplay deals with experimental CSS that is exactly what you get JUST CSS, no javascript or any other programming language has been used in any of the demonstrations.
I am using MSXML 3.0 ServerXMLHTTP class to send a request to a remote server. It returns XML. I would like to format the XML and send the formatted HTML to the client, using an ASP page. Please suggest possible options.
The XML Document Object Model (XML DOM) defines a standard way for accessing and manipulating XML documents. The DOM presents an XML document as a tree structure, and gives access to the structure through a set of objects.
Documentation of HttpRequest object in w3schools With an HTTP request, a web page can make a request to, and get a response from a web server - without reloading the page. The user will stay on the same page, and he or she will not notice that scripts might request pages, or send data to a server in the background.

With experience, working with ASP.NET, I noticed some important XHTML tags that are rarely used by web developers, even the experienced ones, so I thought of writing this article to promote them.<br /> Most of the mentioned elements are HTML compatible, but all of them are XHTML compatible. I've tested these elements on Internet Explorer 6 and Firefox 1.5. Also, I've validated the demo project against XHTML 1.1 and XHTML 1.0 Transitional on the W3C Validator.<br /> The elements are optgroup, label, fieldset/legend, col/colgroup and acronym. In this article, I point out the differences in displaying each of these elements between IE and Firefox, moreover, I show their relation with ASP.NET. What follows is a quick introduction for each element:

Today we are going to break an unwritten rule for agencies, we are going to reveal an important page from our playbook on how we price a project. What is somewhat ironic is that we think it’s a pretty bad rule, that one of the last things we think anyone should hide from a potential client is how your pricing works.<br /> It often seems in the design agency business that the status quo to pricing a project is the old car salesman approach, where no two cars sell for the exact same price and to negotiate the price you must pass scraps of paper back and forth until you reach an agreement.<br /> I believe these days are gone. In the Information Age the consumer is in control, with the ability to discover exactly how much a thing costs, honesty and transparency must be at the heart of how you price a project.
ActiveWidgets is a compact, fast javascript library for HTML processing on the client-side. Unfortunately the current browsers make this task incredibly difficult. The most common problems are<br /> inconsistent and unstable browser APIs <br /> insufficient javascript speed as interpreted language <br /> ActiveWidgets base library provides an abstraction layer for the common HTML manipulation tasks and intended to achieve more readable code and much better performance than using DOM API or simple string concatenation.
