Welcome to Reference Data Portal. This site is devoted to reference data and the issues surrounding its use and management. The need to manage reference data is not often understood by many enterprises. One result is large scale data quality problems which we estimate run into many billions of dollars. Another result is hidden limitations on a enterprise's information architecture. For instance, the capacity to complete transactions spanning several operational systems ("Straight Through Processing") may be limited. There may be also be limitations on the way data can be assembled into data warehouses or data marts. Reference data also has important linkages to areas like business rule management, multilingual applications, and the capabilities of users to actually use systems without introducing errors or "gaming" these systems.

In my searching for a new solution, I stumbled upon a customized version of TiddlyWiki, called MonkeyGTD. If you're not familiar with TiddlyWikis, they're basically fully functional wikis completely self-contained in a single HTML file. They're intended to be run from your local machine, but you can also put one online and use a plugin to upload your changes. Personally I've become attached to the idea of being able to reach my system no matter what computer I'm sitting at, so it had to go online.
