SEO and PPC tools can be found all over the place, butShoeMoney Tools brings them all under one roof for about the same price as you’d pay for just one of the others. For example if you wanted to look up all your competitors PPC ads, normally you’d go to KeywordSpy.com or something like it. ShoeMoney Tools has that built in though as well as many other tools. Honestly, there are so many tools that it would take me 3 hours to write about them all. Instead watch this short video below to see everything that’s included in ShoeMoney Tools…
Robert Plank recently guest posted on Michel Fortin’s blog called MarketersBoard.com. The post was titled “All You Need To Know About Branding In 5 Steps.” Now first let me say that I like both Robert and Michel, they are stand up guys. I just think the positioning of the blog post was all wrong. I don’t feel like it was really about branding and it could really confuse some poeple who don’t know any better. It would have been better named “5 Steps To Getting Started With Internet Marketing” Here was Robert’s 5 step plan… Step 1: Choose your niche (copywriting, stress, blogging, etc.) and your skill level (freelancing, affiliate offers, site building, your own products) Step 2: Get an autoresponder, and add a squeeze page using a report compiled from free articles as an ethical bribe. Then use even more articles as follow-up messages. Step 3: Create seven offers for this list which might be affiliate programs, your own report for sale, a site for sale, or even your services for sale. Step 4: Create an affiliate program and joint venture system to reward people for sending traffic over. Step 5: Register YourName.com if it’s available, add your picture and post a couple of your articles. I do agree with step #1, you have to define yourself. That is absolutely the first rule in branding - Who are you? However, it’s when we get to step #2 that I think it strays away from an article about branding and into something else altogether. In step #2, Robert says to grab an autoresponder, load it with articles from the net, then bundle other articles into a free report, then I assume the objective is to get people to come to the site so they can opt-in and get their goodies. Here’s the problem… You’ve just taken just about every bit of yourself OUT of the equation. Step #2 couldn’t be more anti-branding if it tried. Sure it’s an easy short cut to getting started with list building, but what type of subscribers will you have? You’re going to have freebie seekers that don’t know anything about you, because none of the content is yours. You are not even a voice in their heads yet! But let’s stop here for now and address step #3… I’m not against creating seven follow up offers, that’s smart marketing. However, if they were just 7 affiliate offers then you are again removing yourself from the minds of your subscribers. At this point why are they even YOUR subscribers… YOU don’t even talk to them. BUT If those follow up offers were sent with a message from you about one of your products, blog posts, or services, then now you are putting yourself into your marketing. Now you are BRANDING! We Get Back To Branding Now In step #4 he says to create an affiliate program. This is great because now you can get your customers involved in your business, make them feel like they are a part of it. Now they can spread your brand for you! In step #5 he says to buy your domain name, i’m not trying to be picky but wouldn’t you have needed this in step #2 to run the squeeze page? But he is right you should buy a domain name that represents your brand. He also says putting up a site with pictures of you and articles written by you. Which is good branding because now you are showing your audience who you are and what you have to say. Here’s My 5 Step Branding List 1. Define your target audience by writing down in 140 characters or less what their main problem is 2. Define yourself by writing down in 140 characters or less how you solve their problem 3. Install a wordpress blog, add your picture to the template, write a 500 word “about me” page that tells your target audience who you are, how you plan to help, and what makes you different from competitors 4. Create a video squeeze page with your face in the video describing what they are going to get when they opt-in and why you think they need it (keep it under 5 minutes) 5. Offer a product or service in the follow up email series and introduce every customer to an affiliate program so they can get involved and spread your brand.
From now on, Monday, is Chaunna’s day to post a blog topic about the other side of our business. The side where organization, management, all that stuff that I hate to do. hahaha You’ll get kind of a behind the scenes look at what it really takes to make a profitable web business. Today’s topic is about time management and how she was able to help me get more time out of my days. Behind The Scenes With Chaunna A lot of times Justin and I are asked, “How can I finally start making my website profitable?” But how this question actually translates is, “how can I stop failing and start reaching some success in this – nothing seems to work?” The only way I know how to answer this question is by sharing what works for Justin and me. So now that I’ll be posting weekly I’ll be sharing some of the techniques Justin and I are using on a daily basis to continue our success. This week, I thought I’d start with a technique that has been crucial to our success and is a MUST in every business. It’s using your time management so you can work efficiently. You see when Justin first started, I was working fulltime as a teacher and would spend like 10 hours a day doing stuff for my job, and Justin would work the same hours if not more, and would always complain that he never had enough time. SO in an effort to help him I told him to plan it out. I mean as a teacher the only way to get more time into your teaching day is to use it efficiently – so the same technique should work for him too. A week went by and he was still complaining, so I asked him if he started a schedule, he said he had, but it didn’t work so he stopped following it. I ask him to break it down for me, but what he really did was just write down how much time he wanted to spend doing “stuff” for his websites, but never really factored in when and how he could fit it into his day. This was completely the wrong way to look at it and most people just don’t get how to plan out their time… so here’s how we start with new projects and keep them focused as we work on it. First ask yourself these questions: 1. What do I need to do each day? – This includes your hours at work, time for the family, plus how many hours you have available for working on your internet success. You probably answered with a schedule something like this: 8am- 6pm Work 6pm- 8pm Family Time 8pm- ?? trying everything I can to make money online And that schedule is totally ok, but you’re probably exhausted every morning because you stayed up until 2-3 am, and when family time rolls around you can’t focus on it because you just want to get back and work on making money online so you don’t have to get up and go to work the next day. However, you’re hurting yourself doing this day in and day out, so here’s what you do next. 1. Allot yourself a specific amount of hours to work on your internet business. If it is after family time give yourself from 8pm – 11pm. 3 hours can be plenty of time to build your business, and then on the weekends give yourself 6 hours a day – that’s 27 hours a week!Note: you can obviously do more than 6 hours on the weekends, but remember you still need to have family time – having the luxury of quiting your job to work from home means nothing if you lose everything in the process. 2. Now that you have a set amount of time, start writing down what part of your internet business is a priority for you.For beginners this could be getting your website published, start building traffic. For the intermediates, this could be applying new techniques, getting more traffic, increasing sales/conversions. You can also break this up by project. Now that Justin and I run multiple websites, we have to list each project and what needs to be done for each of them. Now that you have a list of things you have to do, rate them by which needs to be done first.. you can drive traffic before you have a site. So site goes first. If you have a site, traffic goes first, and then conversions. Etc. Note: on this step you should get specific. List the exact methods you want to try – if you don’t know how to do them, be sure to add in the time it will take for you to watch the training and apply it. So for example, if you’re a beginner and you need to get your site published, you may also need to design it first, add the optin box, write content for it, write the “about me page” get advertising/affiliate links so you can monetize it etc. 3. Now that you have a list, lets break it up so that you can use your time efficiently. Here’s my sample list of things to do each day: Week 1: Goal for this week is to get site published Monday: I have 3 hours at the end of the day to do it, here’s my list of things to do and how long I think it will take me: 1. Install wordpress (don’t know how to do so I have to read about it) 2-3 hours 2. Pick a Template & Install it (don’t know how to do so I have to read about it) 1 hour Tuesday: Goal for today is to get site published – I have 3 hours at the end of the day to do it, here’s my list of things to do and how long I think it will take me: 1. 1. Add Optin box (don’t know how to do so I have to read about it) 1 hour 2. Write Content for the site - 2 hours Wednesday: I have 3 hours at the end of the day to do it, here’s my list of things to do and how long I think it will take me: 1. 1. Add Tracking (don’t know how to do so I have to read about it) – 1 hour 2. Pick out affiliate products that will go well with the site – 1 hour g.Add affiliate banners to the site – 30 minutes h.Upload to hosting & Publish site – 30 minutes Now I’m going to stop there for now, and make a few pointers…. If you don’t know how to do something it’s ok to learn about it, but you’re talking about way more time and frustration than is needed if it’s a task that can be done quickly and easily by someone else that already has experience doing it. For example, on Monday you spent the entire 3 hours learning how to install wordpress, instead go to scriptlance.com and pay someone $20 to install wordpress and the template for you while you’re at work. Then when you get home start working on Tuesdays task and you’re already a day ahead of yourself. The point I’m trying to make here is that if it can be done faster by someone else (and still be in budget) then let someone else do it. You don’t have to do every step yourself… in fact, one of our very successful friends (in the multimillion dollar range) admits to use outsourcing so often that he has no clue how what he does get’s done, but only cares that it gets done – that was a very powerful lesson. So, before you go on reading take today to start on the path to success. Follow these steps and start focusing your work so that you can using your time efficiently and reach success faster. 1. break down each project your have going on. 2. Make a list of everything that needs to be done for each project. 3. Estimate the time it will take for you to complete each task –make sure you’re taking advantage of outsourcers when they fit into your budget 4. Prioritize your list by what needs to be done first (not what you want to do first) 5. Split up the task across the time you’ve schedule each day for yourself. 6. Get to work! I’m often asked “how many hours a day do I work” and I can confidently say that it’s no more than 5 now that I’ve put this method to full use. Here’s my daily schedule: 11am – 11:30am Assign daily tasks to assistants, check that yesterday’s tasks were completed 11:30-12:30pm Lunch & time with Dylan before school 12:30-2:30 This 2 hour block used to work on project 1 tasks (these are tasks for our main source of income so that it continues to grow) 2:30 – 4pm This 1.5 hour block used to work on project 2 tasks (these are tasks like blog posts, website flips, SEO projects, planning for the seminar, taxes, networking with other businesses, etc) 4pm sons home from school, homework, home (dinner) & family time Well there you have it… A quick behind the scenes look at how we get more time out of each day. This was just one part of it too, I really didn’t even touch on things like block scheduling and other neat tricks that I’ve whipped Justin into shape with As always, just reading about this stuff won’t do anything for you. If you want to have more time to make your websites more successful then all it takes is action and action builds confidence!
Ever since I started blogging everyday the benefits have been amazing. The traffic, the sales, the relationship building, the exposure… Just on and on. I am 100% sold on the power of blogging now and thought I should share with you where I’m getting my ideas from. If you take action on these lessons like I have then you too can start having an average of 700 visits per day like I’m getting now. That’s a lot of traffic compared to what I’m used to when driving just normal Adwords clicks to an affiliate offer and the best part is all this traffic has been FREE! Below you’ll find the best of bloggin’ about bloggin’ blogs and blog posts that I’ve found in my research… The King Of Kings… ProBlogger Problogger.net is run by Darren Rowse and this guy REALLY knows his stuff. There is an immense amount of information on his site for people interested in starting a blog. Personally, I don’t think there is any course or ebook you could buy that’s better then what he gives out for free on his blog. Before you head on over there I want to give you my opinion on where you should start. He has sooo much information that it can be intimidating to know where you should begin. First just to kinda get to know Darren and what he writes about I suggest you scroll down to the very center of the site. You’ll see a little section called “Best of Problogger.” I’m sure you’ll have a jaw-dropping experience just from that alone. Then I suggest you do like I’ve already done and start following his new “31 Days To Building A Better Blog” series. I’ve registered for the email updates and the RSS updates to make sure I DO NOT MISS A POST. He’s already on day 4 so you’ll have to play a little catch up, but it’s worth it. Finally if you like all of that I recommend you buy Darren’s book called “ProBlogger: Secrets To Blogging Your Way To A Six-Figure Income.” I picked mine up at Barnes & Noble one day while shopping for marketing books, but you can grab a copy at Amazon.com if you like. For only about $15 you can’t go wrong and it’s way better then some of the high priced “guru” stuff out there. What If You’re Just Starting Out If you are at ground zero and don’t even have a blog yet then there’s a couple things you can do. The way I showed my mom how to start a blog was to go to Youtube and watch some videos about setting up Blogger. That’s in my opinion the easiest way to get started, since blogger is free and self hosted you literally can get started by the end of the night with $0 out of pocket. The next best thing and still free (if you have hosting) is to setup your own wordpress blog. Which is what we’re using here at SiteFling.com. If you need help with that one of my new mastermind partners, Lynn Terry, has created a step by step checklist for setting up wordpress on her blog at ClickNewz.com Then once you’ve got your blog setup, first watch “How To Get Started Blogging” by Michael Martine from Remarkablogger.com. It’s a 2.5 hour long video that he shares for free. He covers a lot of the important fundamentals of having a strong platform to work from, but you may want to skip the first 20 minutes. In the beginning he’s kinda just talking with his viewers about whats about to happen and it can be a bit dry. However, once he really get’s into it at about 22 minutes in you’re really gunna get the farm! Finally, once you are up and running make sure you follow Darren’s 31 day challenge. Life will never be the same for you! Last But Certainly Not Least I don’t think anyone is born with the ability to write and that scares away most bloggers. They think that they have to know how to write really well. Just take a look at me, I barely passed english class and I’ll bet there’s no less then 5 grammatical errors in this blog post or any of them for that matter. It’s about sharing YOU, just communicating with people who you are, what you like, and the stances you take on specific topics. It’s not about eloquent (I looked it up!) writing. But there are a few do’s and and do not’s which are best covered over at DoshDosh.com in their Blogging Tips section of blog posts. If I had to put a price tag on what I think the information is valued at in all the resources above… I could straight faced tell you at least $500. But thanks to the spirit and business models of blogging it’s all available to you for free. But just reading about this stuff won’t do anything for you. If you want to have a successful blog then all it takes is action and action builds confidence!
Today’s Internet is NOT a “build it and they will come” place for businesses like brick and mortar businesses can sometimes be. You have to proactively go out and get people to come back to your website. Having an a successful website really isn’t that hard, most people make it hard on themselves by trying to cut corners. Success has already been proven, the recipes are already there. If you’re willing to follow the recipes it’s really pretty hard to truly fail. The most basic formula for a successful website is… 1. Do some research to find out what people are interested in or even better something that they desperately need. For example; cures for ailments, services, how to guides, and software. 2. Next you create whatever you found in your research that people are wanting. 3. Then you research ways that you can drive the type of people that were looking for what you created back to your website. For example; social media, SEO, classified ads, or paid advertising. 4. Finally you track, analyze, and optimize your website for each source of web traffic that you are using. You must do this step so you can monitor and improve the performance of your websites as not every source of traffic will like your website in it’s current state… The trick is to always be optimizing so that you get the most amount of people taking the action you wanted them to take once they arrived. There is no secret, and if there was a “secret” then the above list would be it. Now of course for different business models there might be another step here or there but everything builds from that platform above. In this post i’m not going to be talking about how to research what people want. I’ll address methods of research in another blog post but today’s let’s talk about traffic. Free Traffic Vs. Paid Traffic You have two choices… You either pay for traffic with your time and energy or you pay for it with your money. I personally just go after every possible traffic source I can get my hands on and then test it for profitability. With free traffic you are usually going to have to either hire someone or use your own time and energy to go out and get that free traffic. Paid traffic is more of like a light switch, you just turn it on and off at will. The other benefit of paid traffic is there is nearly an infinite amount of it. Where free traffic can be pretty limited. If you want to read about our free traffic methods and how to use them then I suggest you read an older blog post of ours called “Free Website Traffic Is 100% Possible.” Or keep reading and we’ll talk about 21 different places I’ve found for paid internet advertising. Almost every single one of these sources will let you start with a very small budget. Which in my opinion is the key to success with paid advertising. I got my start with $60 in hand that I setup as a $2/day budget and turned it into $300 in sales by the end of the month. I now spend thousands per month on advertising, but I started small, tracked everything, analyzed daily, and split-tested my web pages to optimize them for high performance. If you do the same then I promise you’ll find at least a couple profitable traffic streams below. Top 21 Paid Internet Advertising Sources THE KING! http://adwords.google.com Google’s Adwords program is the ultimate light switch of web traffic for me. There are just so many different ways inside Adwords alone that you can drive traffic with. I can’t get into it all in this post but they have the normal keyword targetted campaigns, placement targetted (put your ads on other sites), the content network, and then extras like radio/newspaper/TV. http://sem.smallbusiness.yahoo.com/searchenginemarketing This is Yahoo’s version of Google Adwords, not as good but close and tends to convert better since Yahoo is more “shopping” oriented. https://adcenter.microsoft.com I’ll bet you already guessed that this is MSN’s version of Google Adwords. They don’t have nearly the amount of traffic that Google or Yahoo does but they do have an overall higher income bracket of users. So it works quite well for product sales especially to the 45 - 65 demographic. http://sponsoredlistings.ask.com Ok I think this is the last time I’ll have to refer to Google Adwords again, but ASK.com is the smallest of “the big 4″ search engines and ofcourse they have a pay-per-click network as well. This is the best network to use for medical/health related offers. Majority of the users are middle class middle aged african-american or hispanic women. http://advertising.ezanga.com This is a pretty small pay-per-click advertising network. Can get some REALLY cheap clicks though! I like to start out my testing here since it’s usually cheaper and then take my results over to Google, Yahoo, and MSN for scalability. http://www.stumbleupon.com/ads Can’t figure out how to go viral on StumbleUpon? Well you can pay your way in with their advertising network. You basically pay per stumbler that see’s your site and force your way into getting lots of views which can possibly lead to more stumblers stumbling it for free. Good for jumpstarting blogs and other content based stuff like Youtube channels. http://www.cpvmarketplace.com Now we’re getting into more of the MASS traffic type of things. CPV stands for cost per view, which like StumbleAds means you pay everytime someone views your webpage. Which is technically what pay-per-click is too, but CPV is usually a lot faster and a little more interuptive. SPLIT-TESTING REQUIRED!!! I’ve found it best to use very short lead in pages because you’ve got about 3 seconds, if that, for the viewer to decide if they like you or not. http://www.trafficvance.com This one and the next one are also both CPV traffic sources, so if you get one to work you can most likely scale up by adding the others. I only say most likely because every niche and every offer is different. I haven’t used this one yet, just out of not having the time to add it on, but my mastermind partners rave about it. http://adservices.zango.com This is the CPV network I started out with and got over 4,000 visits in under 48 hours. they tend to have a younger audience (teens) so take that for what it’s worth. They get their traffic by trading browsers entertaining content in exchange for downloading their toolbar… Then once you have their toolbar they show you ads (full sized websites). http://ads.youtube.com YES! Youtube has it’s own pay-per-click or should I say “Pay-Per-Play” advertising network now. You can get your video shown in the sponsored video section and pay for people to view that video. Haven’t used it yet, still thinking of a good video idea to use. My plan is to use this one in combination with the next one AdMob.com. http://www.admob.com The guys who started this network are ROCKIN’. They are getting all kinds of press coverage from the biggest blogs in the world. Basically, they own advertising on the iPhone right now! You can advertise either a website or a video to the iPhone users via little ads on all the different iPhone apps. http://www.adbrite.com If you’ve visited any major online forum then chances are you’ve seen AdBrite ads. They link targeted keywords in on-site text to a “hover over” advertisement that appears. If the reader clicks on that ad they are sent to the advertisers website. This network is very cheap and converts really low, great for testing because you can test cheap and if you get it profitable then scaling to others will bring HUGE profits. http://advertising.superpages.com Haven’t used this one but it’s pretty easy to describe… Pay-per-click just like Adwords but instead of the ads being on Google they are on SuperPages.com - I’ve heard from others that it’s great for people looking for local clients or marketing to local type businesses. http://be-a-magpie.com/customer this one is pretty cool and it’s on my list to test this week. You pay them to get their network of twitter users to post tweets that you wrote. Think of being able to pay people to re-tweet your messages! I’ll be using it to market a couple of the more popular blog posts here to get new readers. http://www.kontera.com/pay-per-click-advertising this one is just like AdBrite and if I was smarter I would have grouped them together. Same story of cheap in-text ads that you pay-per-click for but tend not to convert the best. https://advertise.myspace.com Social networks are all the rage these days and the big ones like Myspace and Facebook have over 200 million users. You’d also be surprised to learn that it’s not just teens using these networks. Facebook’s biggest demographic is 25 - 45 and Myspace is reported to have over a million users between the ages of 35 - 65. Use their pay-per-click network to put banners right in front of a huge wave of users. http://www.facebook.com/advertising No doubt you’ve seen the little ads on the right hand side of your Facebook home page… Well this is how you put them there. As with anything thats mass appeal traffic like Myspace and Facebook advertising you should make sure your offer is pretty mass appeal for best results. Targetting is kind of limited with Facebook ads as you really can only narrow it down to a select demographic and then a handful of keywords. http://www.marchex.com/advertisers this is another network I haven’t used but I have used other services they provide and I love the company. They are on my list to test, just haven’t gotten around to it yet. They are like a small version of Google Adwords with pay-per-click and pay-per-call options. http://www.adparlor.com This one is kind of like a one stop shop for advertising on social networks. They make it easier then having to have lots of different accounts but in exchange you are paying a middle man fee. It’s pay-per-click and they say you can start with as little as $1 - Haven’t tried them out yet but I think I will next month to consolidate my Myspace and Facebook ads. http://www.amazon.com/Advertising Lottsa options here and with one of the worlds MOST TRUSTED websites ever in existence. Everything from selling your products through Amazon to pay-per-click test links. Hmmm… I wonder if you could be a kindle affiliate and advertise on Amazon??? Will have to try that… hahaha http://www.ampkeywords.com Another small pay-per-click outfit that used to be exclusive to eBay but is now open. Clicks are cheap and conversions ain’t bad. They also have a refer-a-friend program that can get you free clicks! Well there you have it… Pretty much everything you could ever want to know about where to get web traffic from all in one post (including the linked to post about free traffic). However, just reading about this stuff won’t do anything for you. If you want to have floods of profitable then all it takes is action and action builds confidence!
I was bored earlier today and trying to avoid a daunting task I have to do for a past project… So I opened up Photoshop and decided I would re-design Google. That was much more funner (I know, I know bad grammar)! How It Works Basically, each button lets them narrow down their search. If you just wanted Google to find you images then you just check the image button. Same for videos, news, and blah blah blah. The “People” button finds you things that real human beings have either reviewed, bookmarked, tweeted, or shared in some other fashion. If Google really switched to this model it would give search engine optimizer’s a migraine because all the dynamics would change. They would practically have to re-learn everything and for awhile we would get rid of all the B.S. stuff that sometimes shows up. Anyhow didn’t want this to get too long… But for real lemme know your opinions or what you would have done differently by leaving a comment.

Earlier this week, John Carlton, a legend in the copywriting industry had what I believe was his first Ustream show. A few VERY loyal fans say that it went well, but what I watched was a marketing catastrophe. John’s booboo inspired me to write this post to help others not make the same mistakes. There are 7 things I try to keep in mind whenever I’m planning a Ustream show. You can also see most of these elements in other successful Ustream shows. They aren’t laws, but they are some guide lines to help make sure you don’t run a show that sucks and leaves people with negative thoughts about you. Keep It Short Like Danny Devito We used to run an hour long show and what would happen is we’d run out of things to talk about on our topic for that show. It’s not like writing a blog post where you can stop, do some quick research, and resume your conversation without anyone knowing. When you’re on live video the worst thing you can have is dead air… 30 seconds of dead air can feel like 5 minutes of intense boredom for your viewers. This is why we try to keep our shows confined to 20 minutes now. Not all shows have to be short though, you just have to be entertaining or engaging to your audience for the whole time period that your visitors expected to watch. If you have to tell everyone you are stopping early because you’re out of things to say, you’re letting down your audience. There are popular shows that run for hours though, most of them have hot spots of high entertainment though. When it’s a longer show people come and go, after all they have lives to live. That’s why I prefer to let my audience expect a 20 minute show and then if things are going great I’ll stretch it out until it starts to drop off. When you have to extend your show because it was just sooo good, it leaves your viewers with a sense of “over delivery.” Which if you know anything about marketing is exactly the type of thoughts that you want your audience to be thinking when they think of you. Be As Consistent As The Sunrise The biggest question most people have is how do I get a lot of viewers to my show. Now obviously you could advertise your show just like you would a product. However, if you want to grow a natural following for free then all you have to do is pick a time when your market will most likely be able to watch and then have a consistent schedule. We break the first rule with our show as it’s at a time when the majority of our audience is working. We’re ok with this though since we record the shows and send them out to our subscribers. We sacrifice a little on the live viewers in order to make sure we can follow the second rule of consistency. For us it’s very inconvienent to run our shows at night when most people are off work. That’s the time when we want to relax and enjoy family time. But since it’s at a good time for us it helps us stay consistent with always having a show at the same time every week. The best scenario is to balance both good timing and consistency. In our eyes consistency has been much more important since it creates anticipation in our subscribers. On Tuesday nights a lot of our subscribers are just waiting for us to send them a message telling them where to watch our recorded episode. There is so much anticipation from our consistency that some viewers have told us that they are watching from work and looking over their shoulder to make sure no one finds out! haha When you are consistent with your show your audience starts to realize that they can count on you. If they think they can count on you they will start adapting their schedules to make sure they can catch your show. They do want to make sure they aren’t wasting their time though. The next two elements of a good ustream show are the most important to making sure the show goes well while airing. These are in my eyes what went wrong with John Carlton’s show earlier this week. Be Interested In Your Viewers Ustream shows are a lot like TV in many ways, however, where it’s different is in the interactivity that Ustream provides. Your viewers are able to chat in the chat box, leave comments, send messages, and even private message you during the show. It’s very important that your viewers don’t feel like you aren’t interacting with them. Nothing will kill a live Ustream faster then your viewers feeling like you might as well have just used a recorded video. That’s just not why they show up to Ustream events. Keep your chat box visible to you, possibly even have someone sitting next to you helping you keep up with the chat. It can get hard to keep up with the chat while talking so it does help alot to have a partner with you. Your viewers are absolutely going to want to see that interaction though. On John’s show he wasn’t watching the chat room, instead his assistants in another part of the room (off camera) wer watching it and handing him written questions that were being asked. Yes, it was interaction but it just felt a little impersonal. My good buddy, Alejandro, told me a quote he once hear that says “You have to stop trying to be interesting and instead be interested.” If you can allow your Ustream show to be flexible and adapt to whats going on in the chat room then things should go fine. Bring A Bodyguard To Deal With The Trolls The great part about Ustream is that it’s free to the public, but that’s also one of the worst parts. You will without a doubt have assholes show up to your show at one time or another. There are just people out there on the Internet who find it entertaining to piss off other people, for them it’s like a video game. Don’t play into it though as that is exactly what they want to see. If they can’t get a rise out of you then they get bored and go find someone else. Depending on how popular your show is determines how many of these trolls will find your show. If it’s really popular and you hit the front page you’ll get a rash of these mongrels. It’s best to have a partner or a couple loyal fans as moderators in your shows chat room. You can do this easily by right clicking on their name in the chat room and then selecting “Mod.” Then that person has the ability of right clicking on other peoples names in the chat room and selecting things like “kick” and “ban.” Kicking a person is really ust like a warning, it will bump them off the show but they can come right back. IF you want them to not be able to come back then you have to ban them. Banning blocks that username from coming back on. Moderating a show can actually be kinda fun and stress relieving as it feels a little like playing “Whackamole” as you kick and ban people out of the chat room for being mischievious. Another good tip that is up to your personal preference is whether you allow people who don’t have a Ustream account to watch your show or not (as well as those not logged in). If someone is not logged into Ustream or doesn’t have a [free] account then they will show up as ustreamer-12345 or some other random number combination. If you leave the default settings on these “ustreamers” can participate in your show. Most often trolls are usually found as ustreamers, so it can be helpful to flip the setting that only allows logged in users to chat. This also helps you see who is in the chat room and build relationships, because if they are logged in you’ll start noticing usernames that show up frequently. People Like Parties More Then Funerals There’s not a whole lot to say about this one so I’m not gunna fluff it up. Basically, just let the passion come out. Be yourself and be aware of how your voice or facial expressions are coming across to the viewers. Two things people don’t want to watch is something boring and something with fake enthusiasm. Some People Will Never Read A Book Twice I would think it’s pretty obvious but I have seen some shows where the host just talks about the same two or three things over and over again. Pull out a calendar and plan out the next months worth of shows. This will make sure that you don’t end up talking about the same things over and over or worse NOT have something to talk about on your show. Also theres more then just one type of show. For example you can have an educational show where you just lecture about a topic, you can have a resources show where you talk about different tools or websites your viewers might like, you can have a trivia show where you interact with the audience asking them questions and calling out winners, and many other types of shows… Get creative and spice things up. One thing I do to find hot topics for my show is to look at popular blogs in my niche and then look for popular blog posts within that blog. This is usually a pretty good indicator that the topic will be recieved well. Another great way for you to change up the type of shows you are having is to do a co-hosted show. You can do this with the built in co-host tool in Ustream (kind of clunky) as long as the other person has a webcam. Or you can use a software called CamTwist along with skype video. Camtwist will let you show any other source of video feed, even your desktop if you wanted to do like a powerpoint presentation. But Does It Make Money??? Honestly, if all you are going into Ustream with is to make more money then you just won’t last. People are not wanting to show up to an entertainment based website to watch a sales pitch. That doesn’t mean there is no money in it though. We’ve found a couple different ways to monetize our shows… 1.) In show advertisements and endorsements: If you get enough traction with your show you can charge others to have their product or website advertised in the background of your video frame while streaming. Or you can charge others to say a brief message about their product… or you can do both! 2.) Charge for access to the shows: You can password protect your shows and then place them behind a membership site software. This will let you have private shows that you can then charge people for access too. 3.) Paid forum: This is our favorite way because it comes across the least intrusive. You basically just end every show with “If you want to continue this conversation just go… here” and then let that “here” place be in a paid forum. Wrap Up There is still so much to cover about Ustream, but if you follow these 7 guidelines you will have very successful Ustream episodes. Don’t forget to record them as they make great content for use later on and they are embedable anywhere like your social media profiles! Do you have any questions? If so ask them in the comments below or just say hi. And flattery by compliment works well on us too! Go Bigger, Justin Brooke P.S. Here’s a question for you… How should I end these blog posts? Can you help me think of a good one or two lines that I can use at the end of my posts to say goodbye, leave a comment, and I hope you enjoyed this post??? Love to hear your suggestions!
Last week my wife (Chaunna) and I went shopping for condos in Treasure Island, Florida. We found one that was amazing and we’re dead set on moving to Treasure Island now. However, in order to afford the move we’re gunna have to come up with about $8,000 on top of our normal bills. To hit that mark I’ll be taking on some SEO clients this month and the next few. Normally, I don’t do the service thing since it’s easier for me to make money doing SEO for myself. If I want to live in my dream house though I’m gunna have to roll up my sleeves and do a little good ole fashioned hard work. LoL… Well, not me actually it’ll be my employees. I will have to get new clients though and this is the system I’ll be using to get them. Feel free to copy it for yourselves… First let me give you an overview of the whole system and then I’ll drill down into the specific parts. 1. Generate Local Business Leads 2. Create Your “SEO Client Catcher” 3. Distribute Your “SEO Client Catcher” 4. Follow Up With Every Prospect 5. Outsource The Projects That Come In Generating Local Business Leads A few months ago I attended several local business lunches. You can find these in your area by finding a local BNI Chapter or by searching for Meetupsin your area. Now if you already have your “SEO Client Catcher” created it would be a perfect opportunity to distibute them at one of these meetings. If you haven’t then just go there to network and introduce yourself like I did. By my third visit I was given a chance to speak about my business. When I did I explained how every local business should submit their details to Google Local and that I would do it for them for free. (I got this idea from BJ Wright) They just had to fill out their details on piece of paper I passed around. Now I had the interest and attention from all these local businesses along with their full contact information. From their you go home and fil out their Google local listings for them which takes about 15 minutes or you can outsource it if you’re intimidated - it’s quite simple though. Of course you could just pick up a phone book, but this works better if you already have a relationship with these business owners. Especially when you have given them something first instead of asking for something first. Creating Your “SEO Client Catcher” An SEO Client Catcher is any marketing material you can use that will make you look like the obvious expert. For me I have my SEO Book. You can have an SEO Book also, it’s really very easy. All I did was write a 35 page word document (including big pictures!) about my SEO knowledge. Then I went to 48hrBooks.com, which will publish any PDF into a beautiful paperback version of your ebook. For about $200 I was able to order 50 copies of my new book in advance. Now I’ve got an offical bok I can pass out to prospective customers. This is the ultimate business card because it has all my information inside, contact details, and is basically a giant testimonial to my expertise on the topic. But what if I don’t have $200? What can I say… GET IT! You can print out your own but it’s not going to look as nice and you’re still going to spend about $100 on paper/ink. If just one of those 50 books gets you one client you will more then double your money. Get a second job Flip a website Borrow the money Sell stuff you have around the house on ebay, craigslist, pawnshops Distribute Your “SEO Client Catcher” This is where those leads I generated in step one come into play. I’ll be writing a one page letter that asks for an appointment (not a sale) with the business owner. In the direct marketing world this letter is called a lift letter. They work best handwritten or made to look handwritten. There is a special way of writing this letter though as taught to me by Russell Brunson. Here is a sample of the letter I’ll be sending. I’ll explain the strategies in the letter below… Dear [First Name Of Business Owner], As you can see I’ve included a free copy of my book along with this letter. Enjoy it as a gift from one local business to another. You may remember me from the local [BNI or MEETUP] meetings. I’m writing you because I’m taking on one new client in 5 different industries. I’ve already researched your industry and know that I can get you on the front page of Google. When you are on the front page of Google you’ll see an increase in customers since you are easier to find than your competitors. “Nielson-Online.com says 81% of customers are going online first to find out more about a business.” Being that my business is getting people to the top of Google, I can’t do this for two people that have the same type of business. I’ve already sent this letter and my book to these other business in your industry… Competitor Address #1 Competitor Address #2 Competitor Address #3 Competitor Address #4 Competitor Address #5 Competitor Address #6 Competitor Address #7 Competitor Address #8 Competitor Address #9 Since I can’t possibly rank all 10 of you at the top of Google for the same keyword, I’m taking the first client who sets up a free consultation with me this week. The client that does use my services will certainly have a strong competitive advantage over their competitors. They will be the first person found by customers looking for them on the Internet. Call me today to setup your free consultation, 800-758-2651 ask for Justin. Sincerely, Justin Brooke SiteFling.com SiteFling@gmail.com In the beginning of this letter I make it known that I have given them something. This starts the law of reciprocity, which if you’ve read any marketing book or have any experience at all you know works like gangbusters. Also, make sure you use their first name! People don’t like reading letters not addressed to them. Then I remind them where we met and how I know them. In the third paragraph i tell them why I am writing, that I have already done my homework, what I can do for them, and why they should want me to do it. Right after that I drop some statistical data from a credible source to verify my claims. Finally I get to the nitro steroids part of the letter. This is where I create huge urgency by telling them I’ve already mailed 9 of their competitors and I can ONLY take one of them as a client. I end the letter why I can only take one client from each industry and the benefits that client will have over their competitors. Lastly, I ask them for a free consultation. This is much less intimidating then asking for a sale. I’ll ask for the sale over the phone while I’m explaining my services and everything that I can do for them. I do this over the phone because I never want to discuss price without first building the value of my product. If you didn’t get enough leads to write 10 people in one industry then just use the phone book to fill in the rest. Follow Up With Every Prospect If I don’t hear from anyone within 2 days of them receiving my letter, then I’m on the phone calling them to make sure they got my book. If I get them on the phone I’m going to say… Since we’re already on the phone did you want to hear more about what I can do for you now or would you like to setup a free consultation at a better time? (Never ask them a question that they can answer with “No”) Sure it’s no problem to setup an appointment for another time, are mornings or afternoons easier for you? (Again easy to answer questions without “no” answers and go right into setting up the appointment) Perfect, is Monday morning or Wednesday morning better for you? Ok [Firstname], I’ll call you then. Have a good one and don’t work too hard! haha (Answer any questions they have with shortest answers possible and try to get off the phone as quick as you can - You just want the appointment! Too much talking can kill your call.) Now once I get them on the phone for the actual consultation, I’m just going to start off with questions about their business. I keep the conversation very light, casual, and all about them. They’ll tell you everything you need to know. I love it when business owners tell me things like “oh we’re not getting any traffic to our website” or “I don’t even have a website.” Those statements are perfect to use against them later on in the call. Questions I ask them: What is your website address? How many visitors are you getting? What are you doing right now to get web visitors? What’s a typical customer worth to you? If I could get you more customers would you want to do business together? Finally you have to CLOSE THE SALE. Here’s a close that has worked very well for me in the past that I will also be using during this campaign. Normally, I charge $2,000 but like I said I’ve already done the research for your industry. Since yours is so easy I don’t need to do as much work. I can do yours for only $800 and I’ll even let you pay it in payments. Half to get started and half when finished. I can take a credit card over the phone right now or I can come pick up a check, which is better? (SHUT UP!!! No matter what DO NOT DO NOT speak first. Let them answer and then you can speak. Phone silence is one of the strongest decision forcing tactics you can use.) How do I take credit cards? Same way I would online except now I’m asking them for the details and filling out my online form for them. DO NOT tell them they can just go online and fill out your form - You’ll never hear from them again. Outsource The Projects That Come In Of course you could do the SEO work yourself, however, business owners are supposed to work on income generating tasks and delegate tasks to employees. My average client pays me about $500 per keyword (long tail only) and it only costs me about $50 - $75 to outsource their workload to someone on scriptlance. Even my full time assistants only cost about $400/month each which means one client pays for a whole months worth of work! For us, the only work involved in getting these local business front page rankings is about 500 backlinks which takes us about 2 hours and then some simple changes to their website if we’re allowed access. Then when they pay their second half of the payment we’ll offer them a maintenence plan for $199 per month. The maintenence plan basically just makes sure that they stay on the front page. Some campaigns will just stay their by themselves and some will require update content and fresh backlinks. Thats the system we’ll be using to get SEO clients over the next couple months so we can afford the extra costs of moving back to Florida. Did I leave anything out? Do you have questions?
The other day I tweeted about how the dental office my aunt manages paid $2,000 per month for 3 months to this SEO company and got no results. Then she told me the keyword and my wife used the same strategies in our SEO book and got my aunt not one but two listings on the front page in under 48 hours. I wish I knew that companies name because I would publicly call them out and tell them “Your SEO Sucks But Mine Don’t!” There’s a couple reasons why my SEO strategies were able to beat over 3 months of another companies strategies in just one weekend… Big Bites Are Harder To Swallow Most people who start out either paying someone for SEO or even doing it themselves often go right after the big high traffic keywords. It’s an innocent mistake since they logically think “high traffic, well hell that’s exactly what I want!” Although, what they really want is fast traffic, not lots of traffic. Most people don’t have the financial or time capital to invest in going after the top keywords in their niche. For example if you were a realtor trying to rank for the term “Real Estate Agent.” A keyword like that is going to take you months to years to rank amongst the top ten in Google. Not to mention could you really handle the worldwide traffic that types in that keyword phrase? That’s a whole nother chapter though… If you were a smart realtor though you would go after “Real Estate Agent [Your City Your State]” like “Real Estate Agent Boise Idaho.” A keyword like that is definitely not going to get you all the traffic in the world. You will be able to rank for it quickly though. Which means you’ll have your target customers finding you quickly. Then as you need more traffic you start adding more keywords for more cities. This would work the same for any business too… “SEO Expert Boise Idaho” “Designer Dental Delray Beach Florida” “Family Restaurant Raymore Missouri” With this strategy you are skipping the 1,000 searches per day keywords and instead ranking immediately for 100 keywords that get 10 searches per day (figuratively speaking). Both get you the same amount of traffic, except one you have to wait months befor eyou see results and the other gets you near instant results the whole way through. When you play at this level SEO gets so much easier too. You don’t have to worry about all the fancy nofollowing, H1tagging, link juicing, and daily content producing B.S. - I just worry about 4 factors. 4 Steps To Local SEO Domination Domain Name: The first place Google and other search engines look for your SEO elements is in the address to your web page. If your keyword(s) are in that address you get a big thumbs up from the search engines. Go ahead and Google a few random key phrases. You’ll notice that out of the top 10 listings for that phrase many of them have the phrase or keyword in their domain name. Title Tag: The second thing search engines look for is the title of your page to see what it’s about. You get another big bonus if your keyword(s) is in your title tag. When I traded our local Mac store for a free 21″ iMac for some web design and SEO work, all I had to do was change their title tag and they immediately ranked #1 for “Mac Repair Boise.” (and they still hold that ranking) Keyword Density: The last thing a search engine is going to look for that’s physically on your website is the relevancy of your content. They way they check this is by counting all the words on the page and their combinations to find out which phrases are most common. Then they cound how many times those phrases appear for every other 100 words on your page. This gets really complex to explain but is easier if I just tell you to make sure you have your keyword(s) 3x per every 100 other words on your page. Backlinks: Finally, the search engines are going to check the popularity of your website. Sure they want good quality content but they also want good high quality content that other people will like. The way search engines measure your popularity is by counting how many other websites are linking to you out on the Internet. Each link is like a hand raised in the air voting your site as “being cool.” The more of these links you have the more popular you look to Google. Just like in high school it does matter who you are most popular with too. You don’t want the search engines to see that only one type of website is linking to you over and over or even worse BAD WEBSITES linking to you. You want a diverse collection of incoming links and all of them from reputable sites. Wrap Up If you’ll just make sure your domain name, title tag, keyword density, and backlinks have your keyword(s) in them the right way then you can dominate thousands of keywords very quickly. Not the high traffic keywords but tons and tons of “long tail keywords”
Last night I’m eating dinner with my family. We got some hot wings from a local shop with a horrible location. Everyone’s talking about how much they love this wing shop but know it’s going to go out of business since they aren’t advertising and they have a horrible location. Then my grandma says “we have to get the word out for them because word of mouth advertising is the best advertising.” Of course I kept my mouth shut because I don’t want to sound like a Mr. Knowitall OR WORSE contest my grandmothers ultimate knowledge of pretty much everything in the universe! However, I start thinking about word of mouth advertising and all the other sources I’d much rather use instead. Here’s my thoughts on word of mouth advertising… Google Analytics Code In Your Mouth Last I checked you can’t really copy/paste some analytics code into anyone’s mouths! This makes it very hard to track the effectiveness of any WOM marketing. One of my mentors, Matt Bacak, always said “No Numbers, No Business.” What he meant was if you aren’t tracking your metrics in business then you don’t really have a business. People will argue but if I asked them for the ROI % on their latest WOM campaign they’d have their thumbs up their ass for a few weeks trying to figure out how to answer me. What I love so much about Internet marketing and the rainbow of advertising sources that comes with it is that you can track them down to the penny. When I start a campaign for myself or a client, I can tell them how many impressions they had, how many blog mentions, twitter tweets, click throughs, opt-ins, sales, and blah blah blah. With Internet advertising you can track everything which means knowing whether it was successful or not and how successful it or not it was. If you can’t track your marketing success then how do you know they are successes? Confused Surgeons Are Pretty Scary The other thing that bothers me about WOM marketing is; Where do you start? It’s like a surgeon standing over you and wondering where he should make his first slice. Then if he misses he makes another slice. How many slices before you bleed out? I’m not saying WOM doesn’t have it’s place and that it doesn’t work. I do agree that when it does work it is very powerful. However, starting a WOM campaign is a lot like playing the lottery. There are tools and systems you can start out with but really you’re still throwing a hail mary pass hoping that you’ll make the catch needed to rocket your business virally. My feeling is WOM became so popular because it’s the first and really the only thing a rookie entrepreneur knows how to do in a marketing sense. They ask their friends and family to tell their friends and family. Then they hope and pray that it continues. Maybe it works for a little while but then how do you keep it going. Now you start using some flyers or something and tell your staff to tell your customers to bring someone new with them next time. Maybe that works too and you have another wave… If that wave dies then what? Success with WOM is 100% possible but there are just so many more ways that have definite starting points and scalability. For example, Pay Per Click marketing… With PPC I can go to Google Adwords, create a campaign, and have definite targetted visitors to my marketing materials within hours. Can you pinpoint target your WOM marketing? “Hey Nana, please only tell your friends that are between the ages of 19 - 35, females, interested in teaching parrots to speak, and have incomes of $75,000 or more per year. I can however target those specific traits if I wanted too with Internet advertising. Then if I wanted I could increase the volume multiple times to effectively double, triple, and quadruple my business. The whole time I’m tracking it’s effectiveness and tweaking the results to maximize profits. Wrap Up Word of mouth marketing is good for getting started, but if you don’t have something else in your marketing arsenal you’ll soon be word of mouthing how your business idea failed.
Unfortunately, we’re only dealt 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, 4 weeks in a month, and 12 months in a year. That will never change, but we are constantly needing more time to scale our businesses. For instance if it takes us 1 hour to make $500 (everyone’s rates will vary) then to make $1,000 we need 2 hours right? Thinking purely in a linear logical manner it would seem that you would then reach a glass ceiling since there is a finite amount of time. After all we still need time for meals, sleeping, and family. However, as a smart entrepreneur you’ll start to realize the power of leverage. By harnessing the power of leverage you can turn a finite amount of time into an infinite amount of time. For example, if you don’t have enough time to do your work… Get someone else to do it for a cheaper amount then what you would have made during that time. If I charge $500 an hour but can get someone else to do that work for $250. Then I have saved myself an hour to make another $500. Plus I still made $250 on top of paying for the other guy to do my work for me. Now I’ve made $750 in one hour instead of $500! What if I had 5 people working for me? What if I only had to pay them $20 an hour instead of $250? People aren’t the only things you can leverage. There are all kinds of tools and systems you can leverage to maximize your earnings per hour or per effort spent. Here are 5 tools I use to save time and maximize earnings. Canned Responses A canned response is a pre-written response to commonly asked questions. As an information marketer who sells dozens of downloadable courses I’m constantly getting questions to my inbox. 80% of these questions are exactly the same though. Things like, “I lost the download link” or “how do I find my password if I lost it.” We pre-write the answers to these questions and then just copy/paste them into the email. This saves us the time of having to write these out every time. If we save 2-3 minutes 10 times per day then we’ve added an extra 20-30 minutes onto our day to do other more important tasks. Depending on which email client you use you may or may not have this feature built in. I’m loving that Gmail just added this feature into the Gmail labs. If you are using Gmail just go into your settings at the top right of your user interface. Then click on the labs tab and you’ll find “canned responses” about half way down the list of add ons. If you don’t have Gmail you may have to look around or do what we used too. We just kept a live running document of all the questions and answers to those questions that we were getting. This was great for when we hired someone to start doing our email support for us since they already had the answers to 80% of our emails. Gmail has just made this really easy for us though. Now we can just load all our responses into their system and not have to keep another document open all day. You can ever setup a filter (which we talk about below) that will automatically send out canned responses based on a keyword found in the email!!! To Do Lists This one is one of the most common most heard about methods of saving time. Yet, SOOO many people aren’t doing it. The power of to do lists was best described to me by Kirt Christensen. Kirt says “Just like a computer with lots of programs open and starts running slow, so will your brain if you are constantly having to remember lots of tasks.” When you create a to do list you are effectively closing out all the open programs in your brain. Which lets your brain run more clearly and faster because now everything is on a list and it doesn’t have to juggle all your thoughts at once. Now it can just focus 100% on the task at hand. Not to mention how AWESOME it feels to cross a task off of a list. There are tons of applications you can use for to do lists. Personally, I don’t have the organizational fortitude to keep up with software based to do lists. I’m more of a whiteboard/yellow note pad kind of guy when it comes to lists. However, if you want some cool resources for to do lists then I suggest Gmail Labs again for the Gmail Tasks add-on. People using Outlook have had this feature for years but Gmail now has it also. If you want something a little more robust then that I highly recommend RememberTheMilk.com (also suggested by Kirt). RememberTheMilk has the capabilites to sync with your email and cellphone so you are always on top of your tasks. Re-purposed Content You’ve heard it a million times “Content Is King.” I’ve noticed that the amount of content I produce directly affects my traffic and income levels. That’s why I’m always trying to think of how I can use one piece of content for multiple pruposes. Here’s a little system I shared with my mastermind buddies last weekend… Step #1 = Do a live Ustream show about a popular topic (make sure to record) Step #2 = While broadcasting turn on some sort of microphone to record your audio Step #3 = Send your Audio out to iTunes and all the podcast directories Step #4 = Send your Audio to CastingWords.com for quick/cheap transcribing Step #5 = Embed your video broadcast and transcription into a blog post on your blog Step #6 = Mass submit your transcription to the article directories Step # 7 = Bundle all 3 versions of the content onto a squeeze page and build a list Using those 7 steps I’m able to take the content I made in a 20 minute Ustream broadcast and massively redistribute it all over the web. This gets me a ton more backlinks, traffic, exposure, sales, and subscriptions. Signatures When I send out an email I have a pre-written marketing message that follows along at the bottom of every one of my emails. This includes links to my websites and even a signup link to my affiliate program. In Gmail you can set it up in your settings so that this signature will be automatically posted to every email. And I just found out that you can do this with your autoresponders and broadcasts if you’re using Aweber like we do. Using the {!Signature) tag you can add a pre-written signature to the bottom of every email you send out to your subscribers. I was doing this manually for awhile and saw a 30% increase in the amount of income each email was bringing in. I just added a signature that said “Recommended Readings” and then added affiliate links to my favorite reports and books on Amazon. I would make 2-3 sales per email I sent out in addition to the normal promotions in my email. Plus, this is a soft sell and doesn’t piss off your subscribers like a hard sell would. Filters This is a little more advanced in regards to email clients. Just about every email client I can think of and have ever used has this feature though. Basically, a filter creates a “rule” for your inbox. Then your inbox watches for signs of this “rule” and implements the action you told it to everytime it see’s the “rule” happening. For example I hate getting those notification of payments received emails from Paypal (I used to LOVE seeing them) but now they come in so often that it’s cumbersome to keep removing them. That’s why I used a filter to create a rule that told my inbox if it ever see’s those emails to just automatically place them in their corresponding folder. Now I never have to see them even though they are coming in all day long. They just get filed to their correct folder automatically. You can ever set these up to auto-reply to certain emails. There is a lot you can do with filters especially with Gmail’s new canned response feature. I hope you’ll check it out and get creative. Wrap Up If you’ll implement those 5 tips into your business I can promise you’ll see drastic changes in time efficiency and maximized revenue. None of them are all that hard to implement either. Just takes a little discipline and they almost run themselves. Do you have any time saving tips for us?
Let’s talk a little about list building tonight. I don’t exactly have the same views as most people and it seems to be working out for me. You see… When someone mentions listbuilding most of us, including me, immediately starts thinking of a big huge list. However, I’m here to say that I’ve found in my daily experiences that it’s not about the size it’s about the way you use it! Now before we get started we should talk a little bit about sizes. I mean how do you know if yours is big or not? No one really ever walks up to you and says, honestly, “wow yours is big” or “wow yours is really tiny.” When I tell someone that’s new to Internet marketing that I have just over 7,800 subscribers they usually drop their jaws. Then when I tell my mentors that my list is just over 7,800 subscribers they give me a pat on the head and say “yours will be as big as mine one day, don’t you worry.” Yes, I’m purposefully pushing the line on these phrases! List size is really very relative because to a rookie 7,800 looks gigantic, but then you’ve got guys like Russell Brunson, Tellman Knudson, Mike Filsaime, and many of the other big shots with subscriberships of over 200,000. It goes even bigger then that though becase Arcamax, a newsletter publishing company, has over 5 million subscribers over their whole network. So really where is the line or how far up the ruler do we have to measure before we can call ours big? Forget About Having a Big List… Size isn’t what matters, what really matters is your subscribers. Before I get started down this road lets show a little proof that it’s not all about size… That screenshot is one I took of my email on the last day of Russell’s “DoYouSuckAtMakingMoney” launch. If email marketing was purely about who’s got the biggest list, then I surely should not have been #5. Just look at the names on that list! I’d be making a very safe bet if I said that positions 11-18 on that list would have over 1 million subscribers combined. What Do I Do Differently Then?? It’s my belief that it’s all about responsiveness, and I’m in no way bragging. Half those guys on that list taught me everything I do today. It was Russell who told me to build a relationship with my list, it was Russell who told me to get my subscribers used to clicking on links in my email. That image above is not the only trophy I have from the power of my list either. I’ve been in high positions for Matt Bacak, Jordan Hall, and lots of others. All because of a very specific recipe I have for building the responsiveness of my subscribers. I’ll share my recipe in just a second, but first I’ve got a little rant thats been building up inside me for quite awhile. I can’t bite my tongue any longer, it’s time for an Adswap revolution! But at the same time I am sick and tired of people with 20,000 freebie seekers that are abused with nothing but sales pitch after sales pitch, telling me that because I only have 7,800 subscribers, they’re only going to mail a section of their list for me when we do an Adswap. I’m standing my ground, planting my flag, and saying from now we should be asking “how many people open your emails on average” or even better “what’s your avg. click thru count.” The other thing that scares me is, well if you’re reading this, chances are you are one of my subscribers. Which means I’ll be revealing the coersive tactics I’ve been using on you. That scares me because what happens if revealing the magic trick makes it not magical anymore? The latter doesn’t worry me as much because when you see what my recipe is, even revealing my secret shouldn’t affect how my subscribers react. Time will tell My Email Marketing Recipe First and foremost my biggest belief is that whatever lure you used to get your subscribers with is the lure that’s going to work the best in the future to get them to respond again. For example if all you did was offer them a freebie, then that’s really all they’ll want in the future. Sure, you’ll catch a few buyers in the midst but the majority will just be freebie seekers forever. Now if you made them buy something to get on your list then you’ll be able to get many more of them to buy something again. When I tell my coaching clients to stop letting people onto their list for free and instead make them buy something. The first thing they say is but then it’ll take me forever to build a big list. IT’S NOT ABOUT A BIG LIST!! (forgive my outbursts please this topic raises my blood pressure!) Plus, it’s entirely possible to have the same high conversions you can get with a freebie as it is with something that the browser has to buy. You just have to make sure the value of your offer is much higher then the price you are charging. Ingredient #1 is stop letting people subscribe for free. Out of my 7,800+ subscribers over 4,500 of them are their because they bought something from me. Which actually leads me into the next ingredient. Just because someone has bought your products doesn’t mean that’s how the relationship should stay. There are hundreds of other marketers out there doing EVERYTHING they can think of to take your subscribers away. It’s my belief that you need to reward them well to encourage loyalty. When someone buys from me and becomes a subscriber to my list there are 3-4 unadvertised bonuses given out immediately. I get testimonials all the time about how people are blown away at how much I give them right upfront. This helps me get them to fall in love with me and my emails. Ingredient #2 reward your subscribers well The last thing you want is someone scared to open one of your emails because they’re afraid you’ll talk them into buying something. What you want to create is an environment where your subscribers see one of your emails pop into their box and they open it before any of their friends emails, knowing that it’s probably something really cool you are sending them. Which brings me to ingredient #3… Ingredient #3 is to deliver consistent content The majority of my subscribers know and anticipate my emails on Tuesdays and Sundays. That’s because they know that unless something’s happened to me they are getting something valuable on those days. Every Tuesday morning we do a twenty minute long live show called “The Twenty Minute Tackle” using Ustream.tv and every Sunday night we do a blog post like the one you are reading. My open rates and click through rates on those days are through the roof. We’ve even seen 90% click through rates, multiple times, when we hit the right topic. That’s because doing the consistent content thing does a number of things to your subscribers… Get’s them anticipating and expecting your email Gives them valuable content that they enjoy They respect that you’re not just another salesman Get’s them used to receiving your emails and clicking your links It also lets us interact and turns our emails into a 2 way communication Having that 2 way communication with your subscribers is super important, but I see so many marketers doing everything they can to turn it off. They use noreply email addresses, force you to use help desk software to communicate with them, and even if you get their personal email address it has one of those autoresponders that tell you they aren’t checking their emails anymore. I’m not knocking those strategies, they can be very effective in automating your business and I’ve even tried some of them. What I’m saying is I’ve seen tremendous benefits from turning those things off. I tested it and I make more money without them. By having that 2 way communication with my subscribers they trust me more and I know more of what they want. I even answer my phone, which to some marketers is gonzo nuts. However, there is no other marketing tool I own that gives me more insight into who my market is and what they want. Ingredient #4 is know what your subscribers want The profitability of my email list skyrockets for the 2 weeks after I survey them to see what they want. Through my blog posts, live Internet shows, and picking up my phone I start to get a sense of their main interests starting to change. Then I send them a survey to confirm and see what it is they want about that topic. Finally I follow up with a campaign that delivers exactly what they’ve told me they want. It’s so simple but sooo many marketers aren’t doing it or not doing it enough. I hear business owners telling me they don’t like to sell, but if they just knew what their customers want they’d never have to sell to them. If you know everyone in your local mall is craving white chocolate macadamia nut cookies, then all you have to do is tell people where to get them and they’ll go buy them. If you showed up with cranberry oatmeal cookies instead, then you’re probably going to have to pull out every sales trick in the book to get them over too you instead. I don’t know about you but I sure don’t like hanging out with someone who’s always trying out a new sales trick on me. I do like hanging out with my friends and sharing secrets though. Ingredient #5 is to be friendly and transparent with your subscribers I’m not the picturesque businessman. I’ve got a bald head, a beard, a little overweight, tattoo’s, I speak my mind, and I use foul language to emphasive my emotions. When I first started out online I did everything I could to hide those things. As I slowly started letting those things out, scared that it would hurt my reputation, more of my subscribers started to fall in love with me. They didn’t look at me like I was less then perfect. Instead they responded with “hey I’m the same way.” Sure some people don’t like it, some people are just totally opposite of me and we don’t clique. So they go find someone else that they do clique with and the others bond too me closer then ever before. No matter what you can’t please everyone. If you try to be clean and perfect like Eben Pagan you loose the people that like the Frank Kern style. If you are like Frank Kern you loose the type of people that love Eben Pagan. It’s easiest to just be yourself and let it all just flow out. The bond you create with your subscribers when you show them who you really are is incredible and they’ll buy more from you. Because now they’re thinking, “wow he/she’s just like me and if they can do it then so can I.” Wrapping Up If you’ll implement those 5 ingredients into your email marketing I guarantee you’ll see amazing results. With those 5 ingredients you can have a small subscriber base and get the same results of guys with 50x more subscribers then you. In fact when I launched my SEO Lies ebook in Novemeber, my #1 affiliate had 18,000 subscribers and my #2 affiliate lost by only 1 sale while only having 880 subscribers! Both got nearly the same result but one focuses more on size and the other more on quality. Imagine what happens when you mix size with quality! NEW! Readers Talking Back… Ok ladies and gentlemen, some of our favorite guru’s are doing a great job of giving us exactly what we want. For example I’m loving all the new emails from Rich Schefren, I just wish they were a little more related to what I’m going through right now. So I would ask him for more of ingredient #4. Who do you subscribe too that is almost giving you all five ingredients but is maybe leaving 1 or 2 out? What do you like about them and what ingredient would you like to see more of from them? In numbers we can really make some noise and inspire the change we want. Please nothing negative though, or else I’ll have to delete it. Leave your response below… They’ll hear us thanks to Google Alerts!
This weekend I was invited to Dave Lakhani’s “How to be a profitable persuasive speaker” workshop. The video below is the result of that workshop. I’ve only ever spoken in front of a crowd a couple times. If you want to know who the real Justin Brooke is, the dirty laundry and all, then watch this video. I’ve never shared some of these things with anyone other then my wife. If you have a family member who needs help or if you need help yourself… Please comment below on how I can help you or them. I can’t guarantee that my options will always be free one’s but I can guarantee that I’ll always give you the best that I got!
If you walked up to a perfect stranger and asked them what their opinion about marketers was, 90% of the time they’ll say something negative. Why is this and how can you… not suck? We’ll get to “not sucking” in just a minute but first I wanna explain what brought this blog post on. You see earlier today this dude sends me this tweet on twitter about his new blog post and how I should check it out. So I’m like shit, this must be awesome and directly related to me if he took the timke to tell me about it personally. (sarcastic… I knew it was blatant spam aka twitter vomit) Then I’m thinkin’ well lemme give this spammer a chance. I’ll click on his link and see if he’s actually created something useful or informative, or remarkable in anyway. No sooner do I land on his blog am I practically slapped in the face by the stench of his over monetization and cheap sales tactics. There are not 1 or 2, not a handful, but EIGHT affiliate links in his 2 paragraph long blog post. Worse then that the blog name claims he is an expert, but he’s using a very basic FREE theme with little to no customization, no comments, no picture of himself, and there are adsense ads stuffed everywhere. Now I’m purposefully being a little meaner then I should be right now. I just want to really drive home the point. This person actually reads this blog and I love him as a person. I know he’s still new and learning, but I’m hoping this post will be seen as a wake up call. WAIT! Does this mean everything I do is perfect? FAR FROM IT! I’m always learning, studying, tweaking, testing. I don’t believe a true marketer is ever “perfect.” They just keep learning, growing, and evolving. What I do know though is that I’m not the only one who looks at this guys blog and thinks what I thought. I’ve got over 12,000 subscribers across all of my ways to subscribe to me. I listen to what people are saying, thats my job, and this post is what I’m hearing from them. Not only me either… It’s in the forums, my masterminds are talking about it, and others in the industry are starting to address it. What’s “IT” though? “IT” is all the ridiculous over sales and false posturing going on in the Internet marketing world right now. The whole industry is in an incestuous, copycatting, launch-a-day, dollar vacuuming state right now and most marketers answer to this is denial with forced momentum. The worst part is most of them have read Seth Godin’s “Purple Cow” and it’s like they are just ignoring it. Where is the remarkableness? Hell, I’m even pointing the finger at myself, other then my willingness to call the kettle black - What’s really remarkable about my presence? Sure I try to deliver a lot of high quality content, I do live tv shows, we’re adding on a podcast, but that’s not really a purple cow is it? I dunno… I’m asking you… How Not To Suck Our customers do not want to see never ending attempts to profit off them. They want to see that we can relate to them, that we have the answers to their nightmares, and they want to be entertained. Not separately or one at a time either. They want all three of those things at the same time! The days of just putting something up are over. Sure it’ll help you get started, but the “set it and forget it” days are quickly coming to an end. Seth couldn’t have been more right when he talked about the purple cow. The online masses now know the difference in a good website and a bad website thanks to the web 2.0 boom. The Internet used to be a primarily educational medium. Now it’s primarily an entertainment medium. If you can’t entertain the audience then you are boring. If you are boring then you are losing attention. If you don’t have anyone’s attention then you might as well be invisible because no one is looking at you or listening to you. What Is Not Boring? Not boring is my buddy Alejandro and his new BuzzSmack.com website. Where he creates upbeat, funny, and intriguing videos that report the latest high profile or unique uses of social media. What does it cost? Nothing! How can you make “making money” remarkable? Check out this video from my friend James Wedmore and his friends at RealityMastermind.com. You’ve got to think about what your market wants and give it to them in a completely new way. Break the molds and pave a new path. With research you can minimize your failures and your successes will be much larger then if you were just doing the same as everyone else. We’ve already started implementiing plans to drastically change how we interact with our subscribers/customers. Unfortunately, due to the instant copycats we can’t make them public until we’ve gotten our headstart. Some of the things we are doing are blowing out the tires on what everyone thinks information products should cost. We’re trying to put ourselves in a position where whenever anyone thinks about buying something in our niche they first think “should I get that from Justin and Chaunna instead?” With the current state of the industry it’s going to be really easy for anyone willing to put in the right kind of elbow grease to make leaps and bounds towards mass market exposure. Imagine if you could package the 10 most popular home study courses and then sold them all together for only $99. Think that might get talked about? Think you could make some sales? What if one of our “guru’s” all of a sudden started filming his life 24/7 and every month they built a new profitable website based on rules created by viewers. Then randomly gave away those websites once a month. Would that get any attention? What about good old Robert Allen and his willingness to prove he could make $24,000 in 24 hours with news camera’s watching him. Or when he took 5 strangers to California to prove anyone can buy Real Estate for no money down… Look at where he is today!!! Wrap up I don’t have all the answers, but I see something that a lot of others are seeing. Which is that the average marketer is trying to do just enough to get by. If anyone wants to be really truly successful online in todays world they have to go way beyond whats normal. You have to be shockingly different from everyone else and if you can do it you will be the king or queen of your niche. If you are not different then you are just boring. Readers Talking Back What is a topic that you are tremendously passionate about? What could someone who had no roadblocks do with that topic that would really blow your hair back? If you leave an idea, then you’ll also be able to take away many others! As always, I’ll start it off… “What if the comic book industry had a website that let comic book fans (like myself) submit new storylines for their favorite characters and then once a month they picked one and released it” I’ll even leave another… “What if Dana White, President of the UFC, held unoffical fights that were chosen from fans in mass submitting their dream fightcards through a section of the UFC.com website”
I’ve had a lot of revelations lately. Things I been thinking of for awhile now but just not sure how to execute. Kind of like a scientist standing in front chalkboard full of equations and he just needs that one last digit to turn his theory into reality. For the first time in a long time I feel like I’m finally looking into reality. Granted the shoes are still new so they still feel a little awkward. Gimme some time to break them in and we’ll be rockin’ harder then ever before. What Am I Talking About? I’m sure there is a better way I could phrase this that would make me look better and be full of posturing and coercion… But I don’t wanna be that guy anymore. If you don’t mind I just wanna shoot from the hip from now on. If I get too crazy for you, I guess you can always just hit the back button. What I’m trying to say is for years now I’ve been using my marketing powers to pull money out of peoples pockets. In fact that was like my motto. Then I wrote SEO Lies and it was my hardest effort ever to put money INTO people’s pockets and we sold thousands of copies. People still call me 2-3 times per week just to tell me how much they loved that book. My new motto is “how can I use my marketing powers to put money INTO your pockets.” That’s why you see so many changes here at our blog. We’ve tried to do everything we can to turn this into more of a community. More of a place where you can come get more traffic, more money, or more exposure. I already know how to get those things, so my goal now is to create things that help you get them. Just remember that technically these are new shoes for me, so give me some time to break them in. Feel free to get involved by commenting and let me know what you like or would like to see. What’s New Here? We’ll just start from the top and go on down to the bottom explaining all the new things here… Marketplace: My first $1,000/day came from posting a small add in a marketplace on someone else’s website. I figured instead of just write a book showing you how I did that… To actually just give you the marketplace so you could do it yourself. PLUS, give you the strategies I used. The marketplace I used was $20 per listing and was pretty much a free for all. There were no specific sections, so a lot of times someone looking for what I was offering got interrupted by lots of other shiny balls in the basket. Our marketplace is structured how I wished the marketplace I first used was structured. PLUS, it’s only $5 per listing instead of $20. Why not free? Well I gotta be able to afford the upkeep and management or else it’ll just turn to shit and then it wouldn’t be helpful at all. What can you do with the marketplace? Sell your reports, designs, writing services, coaching, websites, domains, templates, articles, and just about anything else an Internet marketer might need! Just think about who my target audience is with this blog and who my subscribers are… What do they need to make their lives easier? How can you give them that solution? On the flip side of that… Maybe you know how to install Wordpress/Joomla/Dolphin and wanna make a little bit of extra money each week doing installs for other marketers. Or what if you are a great article writer and want to sell 10 packs of articles for all the article marketers we have reading this blog. The possibilities are endless if you get creative and offer an irresistable price! Twitter Banner/Twitter Form: No doubt you haven’t missed the giant blueish banner at the top of this blog. That’s the warp speed button to get to my Twitter stream. Just below that you’ll see a Twitter form, if you read something or see something you like here… Help me share it with more people by using that form. If you liked it then chances are others will too right? If you’re not following me on Twitter or even worse if you’re not even using Twitter then you are missing out on lots of traffic, partnerships, and MONEY! I have proven Twitter to not only be useful for traffic but also for making money. Follow me on there and you’ll see how I’m doing it. DON’T be one of those affiliate tweeters though. I hate those guys that do nothing but blast out links all day. It’s called social media… Let’s friggin be social right! Guest Blogging: As I said, I’m already getting all the traffic I could possibly need. Sure, I’m always trying to get more of it but I’ve got quite a lot already. Just go to compete.com and type in SiteFling.com and you’ll see for yourself. I get more traffic then a lot of the big Guru’s get (except during their launch weeks). Me having traffic is nice and all… But what do you care right? Well, now I’m taking on guest bloggers who can get their names and links in front of my readers. JUSTIN’S BIG #1 RULE: All guest posts MUST be 100% informational. This ain’t the place for your salesletters! More then just being able to have your article published here, we’re also emailing a summary of your article out to our email subscribers as part of the new weekly email blog update. Which leads me into another one of our huge changes here… Daily Blog Posts: Well I really shouldn’t be calling it daily yet since I’m going to be working my way up to daily posts. The worst thing I could think of doing is forcing myself to post daily and just throwing up any ole piece of garbage content up to fill my requirements. That’s why for the first couple weeks it’ll be more like 2-3 posts per week as we get more comfortable with creating lots more high quality content for our readers and subscribers. Normally, we send out an email everytime we make a blog post. However, I doubt people will want to hear “New blog post” every day of the week in their email. That’s why we’re moving to a weekly update by email. However, I suggest you do like I do and start using an RSS reader. By using an RSS reader I’m able to keep up with multiple blogs that post sometimes even multiple times per day. One blog that I read posts 20 times per day!!! Here’s a killer video that teaches you all about RSS and RSS readers. Top Commentators: Want even more traffic from our site? As you comment more on our blog posts you’ll score more points. The 10 commentators with the most points will get a backlink from our site and be posted on the right hand side of EVERY page on this blog! We are a “Do Follow” blog too so these backlinks should be pretty nice for you especially if your website is related to Internet marketing. You Should Read: These are the blogs that I read. I strongly feel that you should be reading them too. Since you’ll now be using an RSS reader like I do it’ll be pretty easy for you too. Plus, a lot of the content on these blogs are just as good if not better then some of those crap clickbank ebooks you and I have purchased in the past. Threaded Comments: Our blog comments now have the ability to reply directly to a persons comment. Instead of the old system where your reply might have been 5 or more comments below that persons comment… Now you’re reply can be directly under the person. This will help us all have a better conversation and make for some interesting debates or very helpful coaching discussions. Currently, we’re having a little bit of a problem with the size of our blog comments text. We know what’s causing this but just not sure what piece of code we need to change to fix it. Maybe you know how to fix it and wanna volunteer??? Otherwise, I’ll figure it out soon enough or just pay someone to fix it. Wrap Up We’ve got some more plans coming soon like asking for readers to volunteer their websites for clinic sessions. Clinic sessions will be me tweaking their website to get better conversions or more traffic, then posting those tweaks and results here for everyone to read. Do you have any ideas you’d like to see here? Comments and compliments go down below. For complaints please press ALT + FX P.S. Almost forgot to mention that we are using “CommentLuv” now which will look through the URL you submit in the comment form for a blog post. If it finds one then it will provide a link back to your latest blog entry. Plus, we’re using a twitter based one that will look at your email submitted to see if you have a twitter account… If it finds one it should link your twitter address also. Lots of sweet bonuses for adding your comment!
10 days away from our move to Florida and everything is finally almost packed. I can’t wait to get back to the normal swing of things too, I miss being able to blog everyday. I did manage to squeeze in a special treat this week though. On this week’s Tuesday’s Twenty Minute Tackle episode we interviewed Russell Brunson about his concept of MicroContinuity Sites. Here’s the inside scoop… Tuesday’s Twenty Minute Tackle airs every Tuesday at 11am Mountain (1pm Eastern). Catch the live shows so you can participate in the conversations. Ask questions, get answers, network with other web business owners. Stay tuned to MicroContinuitySites.com because I’ve got a ton of insider bonuses, templates, resources, and mindmaps about this topic. Next to Russell no one knows this system better than Chaunna and I - We masterminded with him about the original process and helped build some of his first MicroContinuity Sites. Also make sure you check your email June 23rd, we have an outrageously overkill bonus for anyone who buys MicroContinuity through our affiliate link. Click here to see the video of Russell Brunson in tights…
This week we just have an audio for you. It’s almost an hour long, it’s the answer to “how do I get started,” and it’s the end of your beginning. Once you listen to this audio, you shouldn’t have a single excuse for not becoming wildly successful online. The “guru’s” would add fluffed up transcripts and modules and sell this as a $997 home study course. I’m giving it to you for free because I want you to be finished with the “basics” of Internet marketing so I can share and enjoy advanced marketing strategies with everyone. Everything I would leave my son if I passed away is on this hour long pre-recorded audio. Every resource you need to get started making money online is right here on this page with the recorded audio and the comment section below for questions. Please, Please, Please do not take this lightly. My worst fear is that my mentors will be right, that my giving this to you for free will devalue it to the point where you won’t use it or worse won’t even listen to it. I share this with you so you can, if you need too, catch up with the rest of us and start using really advanced techniques to prosper more then you ever thought you could. Some of you will find this recording very basic - it wasn’t created for you! This recording is for anyone who still needs an answer to “how do I get started” or “how do I replace the income from my job so I can finally work from home.”
Recently there seems to be a huge wave of people getting in their own way regarding making money online. What I mean by that is they are so close to the money, they have all the skills they need, they have all the tools, but then something in their mindset is stopping them from actually putting it all together. That’s what I want to talk about today… Is the mindset as well as the system that you need to get yourself into otherwise you’re just going to keep banging your head against the wall. Everyone is different so there are always little personal tweaks to this lesson, but 99% of the beginning “Internet marketers” that I talk to have these same 3 common problems. If they could just conquer these 3 issues I think they would start having phenomenal success. Don’t Add More Highways To Your Trip In past blog posts I’ve talked about creating a goal and then a plan to reach that goal. Once you have your plan one of the worst things you can do is let yourself get introduced to any information that doesn’t help you get to the next step of your plan. For example last weekend I went to Joel Bauer’s workshop in California. It was GREAT! He gave me some killer tips and strategies, but those strategies made me change my focus on one of my plans just a little bit. Luckily, I know to watch for these influencers and was able to keep the impact low. I saw many others creating whole new businesses and pushing the one they were already working on off to the side. I can’t even count how many times I’ve done this and Russell Brunson has made fun of me every time I did (which I thank him for). Even though these seminars, workshops, masterminds, and courses have great information. It’s very important to protect yourself from getting influenced by these great strategies. Otherwise it’s like your plan is a highway you are driving down and you have the map all planned out. Then you get influenced by one of the new latest greatest shiny balls and all of a sudden you have 3 more highways added to your trip. If you don’t stop this early then you never reach the end of your trip because you are constantly adding more highways to the map. In fact what I do now is create my goal, write out my plan (with help from mentors, masterminds, and friends), and then I try to turn off any communication channels that might tempt me to add to my plan. It’s good to always be learning and making your business better. However, you first must finish one plan to analyze it’s success - Then you can seek out more educational material to learn how to take your plan to the next level. If you’re constantly making your plan better before it’s finished then you’re constantly in building mode (which doesn’t pay) instead of being in promotion mode (which does pay). Fancy Frills Are For Ladies Dresses This stuff doesn’t have to be complicated, but I see so many people trying to make it complicated. They ask stuff like what should my website look like, what should I say, should I use video or no video, should I this, should I that. People don’t really care if you are perfect or have a perfect marketing system. All they care about is getting what they want and finding a solution to their problems. Which is why research is so important. When someone hits your web site all you have to do is make sure your information/message is organized, easy to read, on target with the visitors wants, and have proof that your solution will work. Price barely even matters since it really depends on how bad the person wants what you have. Price doesn’t even matter on whether they can afford it or not. If you don’t believe me just ask any crack head if they’ve ever been able to buy crack when they had no money to afford it. From there you have a couple important things you want to do… 1.) You want to capture leads from your web visitors so you can re-market to them 2.) You want to convert them from visitors to buyers 3.) You want to maintain the relationship so they’ll buy again Notice graphics, video, or fancy sales tactics aren’t in that list. They can help increase conversion later down the road, but as for just getting started and being GOOD ENOUGH - nothing else matters. All you need is a blank page with an attention grabbing headline that explains how you can help make your visitors life better. A raw video or written message explaining that you understand their problem and have a solution with proof that it works. Finally you either have a form for them to fill out or an order button. If you’ve done your research correctly, then nothing else is needed. To prove it to you I ask you to check out my long time friend and mastermind partner Travis Sago at BumMarketingMethod.com - Personally, I hate that site. I’ve asked him if I can pretty it up many times over the last couple years. But he could careless since that page, the way it is, has been responsible for over a million dollars in revenue for him. It has exactly what his web visitors want and says exactly what it needs to say to get them to believe him. If you are still just starting out online I would urge you to only focus on exactly that. What do they want and what do I need to say to make them believe that I have that. (We have templates that are proven to lead generate and convert visitors to buyers inTheSiteFlingMafia.com ). Your Opinion Doesn’t Equal Their Desires If I had a dollar for eveytime I’ve heard someone say “But I don’t think they would pay for that” I would be able to buy a very fast car. The problem in that statement are the words “I don’t think” - WHO CARES WHAT YOU THINK!!! You are not buying from you. The only thought you should care about are those of your target market. In fact I would urge you to ignore this whole blog post. I mean maybe your market DOES need to see a fancy web page. For example if you are a web designer trying to sell web designs… You most likely need to have a well designed web site or at least examples of well designed websites that you have built. My buddy Jason Moffatt preaches that you don’t have to have hollywood quality videos to make a ton of money with video marketing. However, if you are selling high quality video production services then you better have some high quality videos for people to look at. It’s not that I’m wrong about not needing a fancy website or that Jason is wrong about fancy videos. For the most part in most niche markets we are right. However, it always depends on what the niche wants not what we say. My opinion and your opinion don’t matter. You need to do the research to find out whether your market will pay for your widget. If you want to be successful then you’ll realize that it’s not you who matters it’s your market that matters. The more you focus on them the better your marketing will work and the more money your marketing will make you. Don’t think, don’t guess… Ask them what they want, they’ll tell you, and then you’ll have perfect marketing. Unfortunately, I’m not sure f it’s even possible for me to express this lesson the right way. I think I covered all the bases, you’ll have to let me know whether I helped shed some sunlight on dark areas or not. I have a feeling that this lesson just might be one of those ones you have to learn the hard way and let it stand you up and slap you in the face. I’m just hoping that this blog post will help get anyone who needs it to get to that face slap faster. As usual comments and compliments go down below. For complaints please press ALT + FX

Earlier this week while I was out to lunch with Russell Brunson I made a faux pas that had us nearly in tears laughing. Here’s how it went down… So we’re trading marketing tips back and forth, me with tips for improving his affiliate program, him with tips for my new coaching program coming out this month. When I bring up the topic of “how the porn guys do things.” I asked Russell, “have you ever taken a look at how the porn sites market their membership sites?” Russell being the clean & polite mormon man that he is of course said no. Then I said “well I’ve been watching them a lot lately.” Before I even had the chance to realize what I had just said Russell starts bursting with laughter. Which then made me realize the way my words had come out of my mouth. What came out was “I’ve been watching a lot of porn lately” but what I meant was “I’ve been studying their marketing methods a lot lately.” After turning 4 shades of red and i’m assuming a few other colors, we had a big laugh and I explained myself. We both agreed on one thing, the porn industry has been making money online and more specifically running highly profitable, MASSIVE, monthly membership sites longer then most of us have even owned an email address. Which is exactly what got me started researching some of the techniques they are using. After all, if I want to run a membership site who better to learn from then the guys who have been testing and perfecting this business model for more then a decade now. Are you curious to find out what I’ve learned in my research? Good, then keep reading and I’ll give you a few of the big things I noticed that they all have in common. Teaser Content EVERY major porn membership site is using teaser content to lure their visitors into becoming subscribers. This means that when you get to their sites instead of a long and very obvious sales letter, you get to actually experience on a small level what the content inside will be like through pictures and video clips. Low Priced Trial Periods All of the more popular porn sites are allowing you to become a full fledged member of their site for just $1, you can download as much as you want, cancel anytime you want, but after 3 days you’re going to start getting billed monthly. Multiple Site Access Many of the bigger more popular sites offer multiple other thematic sites along with your membership as a bonus. Kind of like if you were running a membership site about dog training you might also offer them access to others on the topics of dog care, dog food recipes, breeding dogs, etc etc $29.99 Per month There is no price more common then $29.99 per month when it comes to porn membership. I don’t know the reasoning behind this but the commonality of that price is so overwhelming that I have to believe its the best converting price point. I would also assume that this price point has a high retention rate. What Do We Learn From This? These guys are smart as hell, they have their own conferences, they test this stuff relentlessly and share their results with each other. I would feel very safe betting a large sum of money that these things each site has in common is the way it is for a very specific reason. I am currently seeking out a few site owners for an interview so I can solidify these findings from being just observations to learning the lessons behind them. How Can We Apply This To Our Sites? Replace your salesletter with abbreviated versions of your articles, audios, and videos Make it obvious that you are just giving them a small taste of whats inside When they try to access more of or the full versions of your free content send them your order page Offer them a three day $1 trial that rebills at $29.99 per month when they get to your order page Build additional “nichified” versions of your site to give away as a bonus for becoming a member Now that’s just on the outer layer. We haven’t even gotten into how they get people to their sites, how they run their affiliate program, or what they are doing in the members area. Again, I’m still in the process of researching all this stuff and landing an interview with one of these site owners. So I can really get inside their heads as to why and if there are specific reasons for what they do. However, I have joined a few to see for myself what they are doing and to try get ideas for improving my own sites. The three sites that I became a member of were the top 3 sites in the industry according to Compete.com traffic rankings. I would assume that because they are the top 3 sites then they probably know what they are doing. What I found inside was that there was no page inside the members area that did not have prominent affiliate ads. You try to watch one of the videos and on the side of the video is an attractive affiliate banner sometimes more then one for other sites. Same with every other area inside the site… There was always easily visible affiliate ads every where you went. After canceling my accounts right away (to avoid charges and long conversations with my wife) I joined their affiliate programs to see if anything was different in there. WAY DIFFERENT!!! Our affiliate programs aren’t even a fraction of what they could be after see how the porn guys are doing things. Normally, in our world a good affiliate program will have some banners, emails, keywords, maybe a video or two that you can use to market the site. In the porn world they practically give you a whole business to promote their site with. They have videos galore, whole galleries of banners to choose from, pre-built websites, and even scripts you can use to setup your own free access mini-membership site with all their video clips. The biggest affiliate program is called NastyDollars.com and they run the affiliate marketing for like 30 different sites. I would say that of all the research I’ve done so far just seeing how much they help their affiliates has opened my eyes the most. I mean they even offer their affiliates FREE HOSTING! Anyhow, I thought you’d like to know what I found in my research. It’s given me tons of ideas for improving my own membership sites. I hope I’ve given you a few ideas now too. P.S. If you don’t have a membership site of your own yet I’d like to know what’s stopping you. Chaunna got BizAwake.com and DailyAffiliateArticles.com built for $30 each. From there we just had to add content to them and drive traffic. We use either Joomla or wordpress to run our membership sites. And in our opinion WPWishlist by Stu McLaren is the best membership site software on the market. As usual comments and complients go down below. For complaints please press ALT + FX
This week I pulled out one of our videos from inside TheSiteFlingMafia.com members area. You’ll watch over my shoulder as I teach my own wife how to run our Adwords account. Some of you know my story by now of how I started out with a $2/day budget and turned it into a six figure per year business. Adwords traffic is what I spent that $2/day budget on that let me build my business. To ignore it out of fear is a huge mistake! Press play now to get started… If you liked this video, then you’ll love all the other videos inside our private SiteFling Mafia community. There is almost 30 hours more video training just like this waiting for you for only $1.
Before we get started I have to get something out of the way. The last thing I want is for someone to discredit this post thinking it was just a cleverly disguised promotion to one of my products. At the end of this post I AM going to offer one of my products as a solution to the reasons why 95% of people fail at trying to make money online. It’s not going to cost thousands of dollars or even hundreds or even $47 or even $27. In fact it’s my job to give you real solutions to your real problems -literally! We’ll actually be talking about that in reason #4 why people fail, further on in this blog post. If you don’t want to be one of the 95% that fail this year then I suggest you not only read every word here today, but come back and read it once a week. Let’s Begin… We all know that I used to really suck at making money online. Heck, so did all the other guru’s except for maybe Frank Kern. haha J/K What did I do that anyone else might not have done (to finally become successful online)? I have no super powers, I didn’t get a fancy education, I’m certainly not a programming wiz, my parents aren’t rich… I actually remember the day when the lights went on for me. I was living in Tampa, FL and my desk was made out of cinder blocks stacked 3 high on both sides with a closet door laid on top. Back then I had one of those old computer monitors that still had the big glass round bubble as the screen. Whats worse is my computer would just randomly shut down. So I’d be right in the middle of writing an article or trying to build a landing page and PLLLIFFT! There wen’t all my work! (I learned to press save about every 5 minutes) Why am I telling you all this? Because I’ve been at this game for almost 4 years now and in that time I’ve learned a tremendous amount of information. More then that though is I’ve been at it long enough to see the patterns and cycles of this industry. The day the lights went on for me I remember thinking “That’s it, the answer is right under my nose. The “Guru’s” have practically been yelling it from the top of their lungs, but I’ve been ignoring them thinking there must be something more.” I guess in a sense, as funny as it sounds, I was once looking for the magical secret also. I didn’t want to hear about basics and fundamentals and starting slow to work my way up. I wanted to hear “press this button together with this button and when you go outside there will be stacks of cash in your mailbox!” But in that weird moment of clarity I all of a sudden GOT IT. It’s totally possible back in those days that I may have been under the influence of something, and maybe that’s what that moment of clarity was. Anyhow, that’s the day I started to listen and this is what I heard… Don’t Chase That New Shiny Ball If you want to fail at making money online the best way to do it is just get invloved in every new product or money making method you hear about. In fact if you really want to get good at failing you should sign up to every marketers list, buy every product you think looks good, and try to do each concept you hear about. IF YOU DON’T WANT TO FAIL you should choose very carefully who you allow into your life. When I first learned this lesson I unsubscribed from all but 3 email lists. I then only listened to what those 3 people had to say. This ties into the next part of the formula for failure… Yellow Belts Can’t Kick Anyone’s Ass When I first started out online I was tring everything. I mean the “guru’s” told me they worked so who was I to think they didn’t. And I wasn’t making money from the last one I tried so I might as well try something else. In that thinking was my demise. If you want to fail at making money online this year then you should try every technique you hear about for two weeks only then move onto the next one. But IF YOU DON’T WANT TO FAIL then you should pick just one money making strategy and stick to it until you are an expert in that strategy. Strategies That Work: Affiliate Marketing Information Marketing (having your own products) Website Flipping Blogging Stock Market Investing Real Estate (yes, even in this economy) Service Selling Software Licensing Consulting And many more It’s just like playing any sport. If you tried playing each sport for just two weeks you wouldn’t be good at any of them, however, if you practiced one sport everyday for 6 months you just might start to get really good at that sport. Again this ties into the next part and touches back on that last part of the formula… Even Tiger Woods Has A Coach Once you pick which money making strategy you will become an expert at you must find a mentor or coach. Before I lended my internship with Russell I was barely making any money at all. Within 3 weeks of gaining him as my mentor I quadrupled my income. Less then a year later he directly had a part in me having my first 5 figure day. I’m man enough to admit that it’s 100% of Russell’s teachings that I now make over 6 figures per year and on my way to 7 figures. Could I have done it all myself, probably, but NO WHERE NEAR AS FAST. I got lucky, very lucky, in how I landed Russell as my mentor. However, I believe that ANYONE could still do it if they approached him with the same attitude that I approached him with. Since Russell, I have picked up a few other mentors and I didn’t get lucky these times. This time I had to work my way in and pay my way in. It’s worth it though because having these mentors is the fastest way for me to reach the next levels of succes. Along with helping me steer clear of costly mistakes. If you want to fail at making money online then I suggest you try to do everything on your own, don’t make any sacrifices, don’t pay for any educational material, and never make compromises. IF YOU DON’T WANT TO FAIL then I suggest you find a mentor as quickly as possible. Make sure they are already doing what you wish you were doing both physically and financially. You might have to pay your way in, you might have to work for free, and you might have to kiss some butts. It’ll be worth it though! Don’t Sell Sand In A Desert If I came up to you and told you what would be better to sell in a desert either sand or water what would be your answer? I hope you said water! The reason you answered water instead of sand is because you already know that people in a desert most likely don’t need more sand but they’ll almost always need some more water. It’s the same thing with trying to sell products as an affiliate or product owner or service seller. You first have to know what your market wants. If you don’t already know then you need to do the research. Here are a couple ways I do my research and what information i’m looking for in my markets. 1.) Grow some courage and just start asking people that you think are your target customers then write down the information they give you. 2.) Create a survey with something like SurveyMonkey.com and offer a very valuable incentive in exchange for people to answer your survey. To get people to your survey you can either pay for traffic with something like Google Adwords or pay someone to let you email your survey to their list of subscribers. 3.) Go to quantcast.com, compete.com, or google.com/adplanner and look up sites in your market. These sites will tell you lots of information about who the people are that visit the sites you are researching. Minimum Information You Need: What age group is your target audience? What gender is your target audience? What race is your target audience? What income level is your target audience? Where do they hang out online? What fears do they have? What are their biggest common problems? What do they like to buy? Do they like to buy online or offline? How fast is their Internet connection? What emotion is causing them to want to buy? What emotion will they feel when they buy? If you want to fail at making money online then ignore these questions, never do any research, and just make guesses at what people want to buy. If you want to fail just sell them what you think they want instead of what they know they want. IF YOU DON’T WANT TO FAIL then do your research first. Get answers to those questions and create a character out of that information you collected. Give that character a name and think about what a day i ntheir life is like. Close your eyes and really pretend you are that person - What do they drive, whats their house look like, where do they work, what do they do for fun, what upsets them? If you don’t want to fail then you need to know without a doubt what will help your target audience and then give them the solution in exchange for a fair price. For example my niche is the make money online niche. Here’s my target audience profile… Age: 45 Gender: Male w/Fast Growing Female Audience Race: Non-specific but majority of caucasian and asian Income: $500 - $800/week - $3,000/month - $30,000 per year Online Hot Spots: Twitter, Facebook, WarriorForum, WealthyAffiliate, Squidoo, Ezinearticles Fears: Programming, Breaking the Computer, Public Speaking, Making Mistakes, Public Embarrassment Common Problems: Lack of Focus, Information Overload, Trust, Technical Skills Likes to Buy: Coaching, Step-by-step videos, Traffic, Dreams Buy Online or Off: Majority has online Paypal accounts for instant online purchasing Internet: Majority Has Invested In Broadband Connection Speeds Before Purchase Emotions: Hope, Freedom, Fear, Fatigue After Purchase Emotions: Pride, Invincibility, Hope, Independence By knowing this information it’s easy for me to sell my membership site which offers coaching, community, step by step videos, and tools to make their life easier. When I add on a 30 day trial for only $1 (paid online), show whats inside, and provide testimonials - It’s like selling water to a man who’s just crawled 3 days across the Sahara desert. You can do this in any niche, you just have to be willing to do the research. If you need help with it my wife and I would love to hold your hand and walk you through your first time. Just contact us in our forum at http://www.thesiteflingmafia.com You know the formula for failure now, just make sure you stay out of it and you should be fine. Again, yes I am offering my product as a solution, because it is, but I could not be more genuine about what i’ve said in this blog post. As usual comments and compliments go down below. Originally today’s blog post was supposed to be so controversial that it seriously could be either career ending or make thousands fall in love with me. Before you think I’ve put my tail between my legs, I was actually advised by a lot of people to just double check that I have all my facts straight first. Instead, today I wanted to talk to you guys about a guy who is KILLING it with social media. He has literally become a millionaire DIRECTLY from using social media. So all the “uru Guru booboo’s” who say Social Media is a waste of time, there’s no money in it, buyers aren’t on social media - The bubble has burst! Who is this rapper/social media kingpin? He’s only 18 years old (started at 14!!!), he’s sold over 11,000,000 units of his products, he has over 400,000,000 views to his Youtube videos, he has over 62,000,000 views to his Myspace page with over 900,000 friends, he created his own social network that has 184,000+ members, he’s Grammy nominated, and he had a #1 on the billboards for 7 weeks. Impressive to say the least! It get’s better… He never had help from any large corporations, in fact he’s 100% self made. In November 2005, he posted his songs on the website SoundClick (a music-based social community). Following positive reviews on the site, he then created profiles on YouTube and MySpace. In March 2007, he recorded “Crank That” and released his first independent album Unsigned & Still Major: Da Album Before da Album, followed by a low-budget video filmed demonstrating the “Soulja Boy” dance. By the end of May 2007, “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” received its first airplay and Soulja Boy met with Mr. Collipark to sign a deal with Interscope Records. Yes, we’re talking about Soulja Boy who is better known to most of us as that annoying song that kids are listening to these days. However, this guy is RULING the Internet in his niche and creating a huge tribe that talks like him, dresses like him, dances like him, and spreads his message. You may not like his product but you have to respect his marketing. How Did He Do It? Here’s a little mindmap of the different things Soulja Boy’s got going on… This guy has sooo much going on in social media that I’m a little intimidated to try and explain it all in just one blog post. I might have to turn this into a report to really expand on it the way it needs. However, i’ll give it my best shot and at least cover the things I see as most important. Soulja Boy On Blogging Instead of all text blog posts Soulja uses lots of everyday pictures of what he’s doing or where he is at and then a little blurb about that picture. He also does a lot of video blog posts and then posts them to youtube. Some specific things I noticed him doing was giving out his email address and sometimes even his phone number in his blog posts. This is very smart as it lets his audience interact or feel like they are interacting with him. In fact I called the number to see what happens and I totally fell for the joke. It goes straight to voicemail but the message is one of those tricks where you think the person actually picked up the phone! Yes, I actually thought I was talking to him until it finally sunk in. hahaha Some other important notes were that every video is under or around 5-6 minutes long and it’s very raw. He doesn’t use any fancy effects, it’s just him talking about whats on his mind. If he’s in a down mood you hear it in his voice and same if he is excited. Soulja Boy On Video Marketing I already said that he keeps his videos short and to the point. He also makes sure to tell you what he wants you to do in every video. If he needed you to vote for something he asked you to do it, if he needed you to buy a new ringtone he asked you to do it, on and on for anything he needs from you. In almost all of his videos he gives you a way to talk back to him which keeps it a 2 way communication instead of him just always talking at you. Soulja Boy On Social Networking Again it’s all about being a 2 way street of communication. His myspace has his phone number and so do all of his friends. The networks I saw him using were those that most serviced his target market. For example he got started on SoundClick.com which is a social network thats lets musicians share there music. He’s using Twitter and Facebook just like almost everyone else. But then he also uses the more specific to his niche like Youtube, SoundClick, Bebo, and Myspace. Today there is a niche social network for just about any topic you can think of, and if not then Ning.com will let you create one. Soulja is also using Ning.com and has over 184,000 members. Ning is a social network for people who want to build there own social networks and Ning lets you create your own social networks with all the most popular features. His social network is called SODMG which stands for S.O.D. Mafia Gamers. It’s a place for gamers to hang out and challenge each other. For $25 you can register to their internal contest network and join gaming tournaments where you can win cash prizes. 184,000+ members x $25 = A LOT!!! Soulja Boy On Building A Tribe This guy is no dummy, he has very specific reasons for what he does. Like when he created a video teaching his audience how to do the unique dance he did in his music video. How powerful is it to have a bunch of people not only singing your songs but doing your dance! That’s not it though because he has his own clothing line where you can wear his brand on your body, I already told you about him having his own social network, and then he also has specific taglines or anthems that he gets his audience to sing. You could do these things in your niche by having a specific quote that your audience knows you by like siteFLIIIING.com or “all it takes is action and action builds confidence.” (ok so we’re still trying to make the last one catch on!) You can build your own social network where the members call themselves a part of your brand. This is exactly why I named our membership site “SiteFling Mafia.” My vision for the mafia is to build a “family” of Internet marketers that makes money together. A group of people taught by myself how to dominate their competitors. Eventually I see myself bringing mafia members with me all around the world to seminars and workshops to show people our way of doing things. How can you do this in your niche? Here are some words you can use that will help you build your tribe. Mafia Fraternity Society Clan Agents Soulja Boy On Branding In every picture, video, or anything Soulja makes sure to try and include his branding. For example he started a trend of wearing sunglasses with his name written on the lenses. Now his animated character in his new animated music video series has his name written on his sunglass lenses. He’s almost always wearing a necklace with a superman symbol or his S.O.D. symbol. He wears his hat a certain way, he shaves his eyebrows a certain way, everything about him is consistent so that you can always recognize him and his brand. Soulja Boy On Sales With over 11 million units sold I think it’s safe to say that this kid knows a thing or two about selling products. Most important to mention is that every one of his products is what his target audience is ALREADY BUYING. People that listen to rap are already buying shirts with rappers names on them, they are already buying ringtones, they are already buying nice shoes. What is your market already buying? Are you selling one of those yet? For example if you were in the tomato growing niche don’t you think you could sell tomato seeds? If you were in the weight loss niche don’t you think you could sell your own recipe books, pills, or fitness equipment? For me my audience is buying ebooks, videos, and coaching so that’s what I sell. Every niche has those things that people are already buying. I encourage you to go back through this blog post and see how you can add just one part of each section to your business. I know there is a couple that I haven’t done yet and I’ll surely be adding them in as fast as possible. As usual comments and compliments go down below. For complaints please press ALT + FX
Last week I explained the problem most rookie Internet marketers have that keeps them from making any money online. Then I gave you a plan for getting out of that viscous cycle. I also promised you that I’d show you what the next levels look like. For example if we compared Internet marketing or making money online to the martial arts, then white and yellow belts are about research and creation. Then green belt through red belt would be about driving traffic and analytics. Before I get into the specifics of what I think are the green and red belt levels I’ve got some personal things I want to talk to you about. I’ll keep them quick and get right back to the lesson at hand. Quick Personal Message 1.) Russell Brunson is coming out with a new product called “Do You Suck At Making Money.” Most of you know that I’m kinda like a protege from Russell. I interned with him for 30 days and that’s pretty much what launched me into what I am today (his teachings WORK VERY WELL!). I will have, hands down, the best bonus possible for Russell’s new product. There’s really no one that could compete with my bonus since I live down the street from the man himself. If you’ve liked this series of articles or you’re a newbie marketer - You’re going to love Russell’s new product. 2.) Later this week I will be releasing a FREE DVD called the “30MinuteTrafficMethod.” I highly advise you get one of the 500 copies that will be available. No matter what you are trying to do, whether it be affiliate marketing, network marketing, selling your own product, CPA offers, or even if you are an offline business… YOU NEED TRAFFIC. The Internet is not a “build it and they will come” type resource. The method I am teaching on this DVD has lead to me having over 10,000 subscribers on multiple lists, has lead to over $250,000 in sales, and lets me make more money on demand. Whenever I create a new website this traffic method is my first resort - I could live entirely on this one method of traffic and never need anything else. DON’T MISS OUT ON THIS DVD. Now Back To The Blog Post… In the last blog post I told you how to find a profitable market and how to create a hot offer for that market. Today, I’m talking about how to drive traffic to your offer and then how to maximize the value of that traffic (aka turn that traffic into green stuff you can fill your bank account with) Driving Traffic: I have 5 favorite ways that I like to drive traffic. I don’t think anyone should rely on just one method because if that channel ever goes down then you’re all of a sudden back at square one. Also, these are not the only ways to drive traffic. There are literally thousands of ways to get people to come to your website. I can’t cover all thousand neither can I physically apply all thousand. So I stick with what works well for me and what I can manage. As an aside: You should NEVER drive traffic to something where you can’t capture that traffic. Meaning getting that traffic to subscribe to your email list, RSS feed, or fill out a lead gen. form. IF you’re not doing this then you are wasting 50% of the value of your traffic right from the start. When you capture the traffic you now OWN THE TRAFFIC and can send it wherever you want later. My biggest source of traffic is affiliates. When you have affiliates (people that earn a commission for helping you make more sales) they’ll do your marketing for you. They’ll build blogs, pay for Adwords, write articles, do SEO, and some even have huge email lists and can tell all their email subscribers about you. Like most things in life the most rewarding things come with a higher price to acquire. Affiliate traffic means you have to build relationships and actively recruit new people to become your affiliate. How can you do this? It’s not rocket science… You just have to use the things you were taught in Kindgarten about making friends. Find people that share a like mind with you or that are targetting the same people as you. Be friendly with them first, offer them value, and then in return they’ll do the same for you. Where most everyone goes wrong with this is they’re asking instead of giving. Here’s how most people go about trying to get an affiliate or industry leader to promote them. “Hi John Doe, I’ve just created this killer product and if you promote it for me you’ll make a bunch of money. The product is already created and there are thousands that will buy this. All you have to do is promote it and you’ll make soooo much money.” I get at least 3-5 of these emails per week and usually they are deleted without a response. I know guys like Russell Brunson, Frank Kern, and Mike Filsaime get 10x more of those then I do. Still they just get deleted. The reason that approach doesn’t work is because you’re jumping into the friendship asking for something first instead of giving. Who would you want to be friends with more? Someone asking you for something valuable or someone giving you something valuable. The first JV I ever got was with a letter like this… “Hey Joe Schmoe, I know your subscribers like such and such and I’m doing something cool on that topic that’s working very well for me. I wrote up short report about what I’m doing and I think your subscribers will love it. You can give it to them for free. At the bottom there is room for me to put an affiliate link to my bigger report that sells for such and such. So I could brand it with a link for you and you can make money giving it away. Or you could just give it away as is… Your call, I just wanted to help you and your subscribers.” That email made me a couple thousand dollars because I was giving first instead of asking. The person I sent it to saw the value, liked my approach, and decided to use an affiliate link instead of just giving it away. Affiliates, especially BIG affiliates, care about two main things. 1.) How can you help them save time and 2.) How can you help them improve their image to their audience. The bigger the affiliate the less they care about something making them a lot of money - They already know how to make a lot of money. So before you go to recruit an affiliate first think about what they would want out of the deal. Give that to them first and then hope that they’ll return the favor for you. The law of reciprocity is very powerful and ALMOST ALWAYS WORKS. Ok so that’s my biggest and best source of traffic. It really only works if you are the person with the product, service, or offer though. It won’t really work if you are just promoting someone else’s offer unless you get really creative. Up next on the list of traffic sources are my two MOST RELIABLE sources of traffic. These are two sources of traffic that I know I can always get and can always count on to work. And they are… …Pay Per Click & SEO! And I put PPC first because PPC is the fastest. Even with my most ninja methods of doing SEO it still takes at least a couple hours if not a couple days. SEO for really high traffic keywords can even take weeks to months. Doesn’t mean it’s not worth it… Just means that it’s not as fast. PPC I can setup a campaign in less then an hour, go out to lunch, and by the time I come back I can have traffic coming to my site. For the super rookie: PPC is where you set bid prices on how much you are willing to pay per click on certain keywords. Then when someone searches that keyword on that PPC network your advertisement will display and if the browser clicks your ad it will cost you the price you set in the beginning. For example: Let’s say you were selling a tomato growing book. So you decided to join up with Google’s PPC network which is called “AdWords.” Then you set up your campaign to show your ad everytime someone types in Tomato Growing and you were willing to spend $0.20 per click. Then whenever anyone searches for Tomato Growing your ad will display and if they click it to go to your website - You’ll get $0.20 deducted from your account. I can hear what most of you are saying, “But PPC costs money.” Yes, but as long as it costs you less then you are making then it’s profitable. For example lets say you start a PPC campaign using the most popular program, Google Adwords. You set your budget to $10 per day and that brings you one sale per day. Now let’s pretend that sale is worth $27 to you. That means you spent $10 to make $27 which is $17 profit. If that kind of deal doesn’t interet you then you are in the WRONG place. Even if it takes you 2 days at $10/day budget… That’s still $7 profit. What happens if it’s taking you 3 days or 5 days at $10/per day to make a sale? Then you either need to raise your price or increase how many sales you are making from that amount of traffic (which we’ll be addressing later in this blog post). Everything you could ever need to know about using Google Adwords is available for free in the Google Adwords Learning Center. Don’t tell the Adwords guru’s that I told you that though!!! haha SEO, or Search Engine Optimization works much the same way except instead of paying to be visible for a certain keyword. You work your way up the ladder meaning “optimizing” your website so that it ranks higher until you are the #1 website for that keyword phrase. I have a full report on SEO available for just $1.00 here. You’ll learn everything you need to know for driving traffic with SEO in that report. Don’t confuse it’s low price for low quality. It has a low price because it’s the entry point to my sales funnel. I know that if you buy something from me for $1.00 and you love it then chances are you’ll buy more stuff from me at higher prices. Last but certainly not least comes my three lesser traffic sources. Which are forum marketing, ezine advertising, and banner advertising. Just because I call them my “lesser” traffic sources doesn’t mean they are less effective. Just that I do them less. Forum marketing involves you becoming a member of online forums in your niche then being involved in that online community. Most forums allow you to have a “signature box” which is a little box you can put a link back to your website in that is automatically posted at the end of every message you post. Here’s a video that show syou how to find these online forums for just about any niche. Even the cockaroach niche! LoL (one of my subscribers mentioned it to me) eZine Advertising involves you sending out advertisements in other peoples ezines. An ezine is like a magazine just only online. Some of them can be as big as having millions of subscribers and some as small as a couple hundred. The prices range anywhere from $50 - $500 and ad sizes range from a small 6 line ad to a full email. Here’s a quick video I made a couple years ago about eZine advertising. Finally, banner advertising involves you placing a graphic on someone elses site that entices the visitors of that site to click the graphic which sends them back to your site. You’ll see that I’m using banner advertising at the top right of this page. I can either charge people to put a banner their or I can put my own banner there to an affiliate product (which is what I’m doing) Huge sites like Yahoo and Myspace.com can cost you hundreds to thousands of dollars per month for a banner on their sites. TechCunch.com charges $10,000 per month with a contract of 5 months (last time I checked). Lots of people think banner advertising doesn’t work anymore because it sort of got put on the backburner after PPC came out. However, it’s never stopped working and is still very effective. There are tons of sites run by normal people that get a slew of visitors and they’d freak out if you offered them money to put a banner on their site. They have no clue that their website could be earning them money. Easiest way to find banner spots is to Google your main keyword and look at the top 10 sites that show up. Do they have Adsense ads? If they do then then are trying to make money from that website and would almost always let you have a banner for such and such dollars per month. Sometimes as little as $30 per month. Think about that… Their site is at the top of Google… You can put your ad on their site… Doesn’t that kind of put you at the top of Google also??? If you put all of these traffic generation strategies into action, driving the traffic back to the offer you made fromyour yellowbelt stage. You are now in what I believe to be the greenbelt stage of making money online. The red belt stage is where we setup tracking and testing programs to make sure our traffic strategies are profitable. If you are not tracking your traffic then you are blind. You can’t possibly know whats working and whats making you money if you don’t track it. Web Analytics: To be honest this blog post is getting really long and my fingers are aching. So if you don’t mind I’m just going to pull a video out from my $1,000 coaching program that will teach you what you need to know about setting up tracking and testing programs. The first video is just to teach you what is what. Like why you need to track and what you should use. As well as why you need to test and what you should use. The second video is from my coaching course and teaches you step-by-step on how to install tracking and testing programs onto your sites. I hope you enjoy and forgive me for not typin out the rest of this blog post. Plus, I’m sure you’ll like the step by step videos more then my writing anyhow. Just like last week please don’t just read this post… DO THIS POST! I’ve done my best to include everything a beginner needs to know in the last two blog posts. As always I’m here for you with any questions or comment you have. Comments and compliments go down below. For complaints hold down the ALT button and press f + x.
How To Convert Really High I have such a love hate relationship with the “make money online” industry. I love that it’s a vehicle for people to reach their dreams, but I hate that so many people are so jaded by the “gurus” who irresponsibly market their products. For example, look at most peoples opinions on getting traffic vs. copywriting. I could sell a course on getting website traffic all day long but ask the same people to learn copywriting and they’ll run the other way. Guess what? All the website traffic in the world won’t do a damn thing for them if they don’t know how to convert that traffic into the actions they want those visitors to take. Like a sale or an opt-in. That’s why today I’m going to do my best at simplifying what it takes to convert traffic into sales (or whatever action it is you want them to take). Some of you reading may be a little more advanced then others so please bare with me through the basics and I promise I’ll deliver the golden nuggets along the way. First lets look at the definition of conversion… Conversion: “An event that results in a transformation” Ok so at least now we know that the word convert means to create an event that will result in a transformation. As marketers the transformation we are looking for is usually a sale. However, it can be many different things. I will talk mostly about sales in this post but know that I really mean any action. The same process work for a sale that work for an opt-in that work for a twitter follow or anything else. When I first started out online I remember I couldn’t pay someone to do what I wanted them to do on my websites or even just a clickthru from an article. Then I studied up on copywriting. I read books by Joe Sugarman, John Caples, and Claude Hopkins. Things started to get better. At least now I was able to get the normal 1% - 2% conversion rates that so many people talk about. Basically every copywriting book can be boiled down to… “Know what your market wants/needs, know the emotions that are creating that want/need, and then clearly explain (in language they would use in their own personal thoughts) to them how your product will not only fulfill their want/need but also the emotions behind it” If you knew just that much about copywriting and faithfully implemented it every time you communicated with your market you would convert just fine. However, it wasn’t until I heard Stephen Pierce talk about how a conversion happens that I was able to start converting much higher. What Steve said went something like this “When the value of an item outweighs the action to acquire that item a conversion happens.” When I heard that, a light went off in my head. All of a sudden I understood how to make a conversion happen. In my head I thought “All I have to do is make sure my price is always less then the value of what I am offering.” More then that though, is the people reading your offer must believe in themselves that the price of the offer is less then the value of the offer. For example if everyone who views your website deeply believes that your product is worth $97 and your price tag is $27 - Conversions are bound to happen. I’ve also noticed that the more drastic the difference in those values the higher the conversion. That means that if the value belief was $97 and your price tag was $1 you will convert higher then if your price tag was $27. The farther apart those values are from each other the more people who will convert into sales. Be careful not to go too far out of sync though. If your value is too much higher then your price you’ll trigger the “too good to be true” response from your viewers. Knowing how to balance that only comes from experience and testing. When you combine the basic copywriting lesson of knowing what your market wants, why they want it, and how it will affect their lives with the lesson from Stephen you can get rediculous conversion rates. I remember one day being on the phone with a certain big dog in the Internet marketing world, I won’t name names, and I was explaining my plans for a product launch. I had said something like if I can just get a 20% - 30% conversion rate on that page I would do extremely well. He immediately started laughing and berating me with how that was impossible and I should consider myself lucky if I could get a 2% - 3% conversion rate. Back then I was much newer to marketing and I believed him - He was the expert I was seeking advice from. Today I stand proud having created multiple campaigns that have lead to over 30% sales conversions. I’ll be honest, the first one I thought was maybe a fluke and I very luckily struck the right nerve. I know I purposely created that first campaign for high conversions, but I was floored when I saw 37% conversions. I had NEVER seen something like that and I was so shocked that I did the math twice and then asked two other people to check my math! hahahahaha Then it happened again, and again, and I knew it hadn’t been a fluke. I had discovered a formula for really really high conversions. I can’t take the full credit though, my formula is really just a mixture of 2 or 3 other peoples formulas. 7 Elements Of Really Really High Converting Copy Unfortunately, I don’t have some Einsteinian way of putting this formula like e=mc2. I can describe it to you in basic English though. 1.) You must know the common problems your target audience is having 2.) You must explain how your product solves that specific problem 3.) You must use the same language that they would be using internally. So no salesy cheese or fancy words. Just straight talk as if you were friends at the bar with a couple drinks in you 4.) You must show undeniable proof that your claim is true 5.) You must, without a doubt, appear as if you were exactly like they are - You had the same problems, tools, and experiences 6.) You must make sure the value of your offer largely outweighs the price to the point they are almost shocked at the low price. It must be a “no brainer” to make the purchase 7.) You must convince them to take action immediately through a very real reason for urgency If you have all 7 of those elements in your sales copy and you only show your offer to your target audience from the first element - You will never have a problem with converting again. With this formula I have been able to out convert marketers that I should not be able to beat. Guys with many more years of experience, more money, and more credibility. Now, I’m just a normal guy like anyone else. I failed Algebra 3 years in a row, so I’m certainly not an amazing intellectual. I come from a city in South Florida where “doing more with less” was pretty much necessary to survival. I felt like I was in the same situation when I got started online. Here were all these “gurus” with big 6 figure sized email lists, making millions per year, and testimonial pages that take 8 minutes to scroll from top to bottom. Have you ever felt like that? Well now you have the answer to evening out the playing fields. I hope this post has helped shed some light for you, empowered you, and will take you to the next level in your business. They’ll probably be gone within a few hours, but just wanted to let you know in case you haven’t gotten yours yet. Get Your Blackbelt In Making Money Online Early this week a guy came to me desperate for help. His story, unfortunately, is all to similar to so many others. No one gets into making money online because they’re already millionaires and just looking for a change. Well, maybe “no one” is a bit extreme but we could probably count those people with the fingers on one hand. Anyhow, what I told him in the privacy of our forum I thought I would share with everyone. It’s a very important lesson that EVERY rookie needs to adopt as a law. Tell me if this story sounds familiar… “I’ve been trying to make money online for months/years now. I’ve bought every report and still nothing I try seems to be working. Whats worse is my spouse is REALLY OVER IT now. Our finances are so screwed up that I literally must do anything I can at this point or I could lose my house. Please help me find the right path and the quickest way to MAKE MONEY NOW!” It’s basically the same story I get from every one who comes to me for help. If that story sounds anything like what you’re going through right now then you need to read EVERY word of this blog post. Turn off the TV Ask someone to watch the kids Food can wait I don’t consider myself a guru, and I don’t like that some people are starting to call me one. I’m just a normal guy who never gave up on his dream. It wasn’t long ago that I had that same sad story. My wife was pregnant, working full time, and a full time college student. While I was at home desperately trying to figure out how to make money online. I went 5 months without making a dime and my family had all the smack talk in the world about “how could he be doing that to her.” What I’m about to tell you is the “mental flip” I experienced that cured myself of that story of desperation. The secret is right under your noses and the “guru’s” are practically screaming it at you. However, it’s not the fun and exciting part of their lessons so it’s easily skipped over. The Problem “10 yellowbelts does not equal 1 blackbelt” This one is not really your fault, it’s the fault of every over hyped salespage that promises you money overnight. Sure, it really is possible to make money overnight. Just not as easy as it sounds for the brand new rookie with no list, no website, no budget, and no skills. However, just because I took the blame off of you doesn’t mean you’re free and clear. You need to realize, here and now, that making money online is going to take some work. It’s no different from any sport, trade, or martial art. In order to get your blackbelt you first need to master the white belt phase, then yellow, green, blue, red, finally you get to the blackbelt level where you are really kicking ass. In baseball you start out in T-ball, then little league, middle school, high school, college, minors, then finally you get into the pro level in the major leagues. What most people are doing is buying an ebook or course, then trying it out for a couple weeks. They don’t make thousands. Instead maybe if they were lucky they made $100, but most of the time they come up with nothing. So then the rookie see’s another promising course and repeats the process only to quit at the yellowbelt level again. Years go by and this is where we get to the part of the “story” where they claim to have tried everything. Yes, they tried everything but they also quit everything. They got their yellowbelt and then quit because they couldn’t beat up all the other blackbelts. I’m no different then you. I have literally cried because things have gotten so hard. I swore up and down that I was going to quit. “It’s too hard, it’s not worth it, I want to try something else.” Trust me, Russell Brunson (my mentor) has heard me make every excuse under the sun. I’ve been there! Instead of quitting forever though - I just quit for that day. I would storm away from my desk yelling at the walls about how my membership site software just wouldn’t work. Or my Adwords account was costing me more then it was making me. I would tell Chaunna (my wife) that I quit for today. I’ll get back to it tomorrow with a better attitude, clear mind, and rejuvinated patience. The point is that I never fully gave up. I pushed through the awkward mindbreaking levels of whitebelt and yellowbelt. It’s because I pushed through, that I got into the higher levels where things started “working” and money started coming in. It wasn’t floods of money either! I took me about 8 months to go from $30/month to $1,500/month. I call that $1,500/month my greenbelt phase. Things were starting to really click at that phase and it wasn’t hard to duplicate what I had done a couple times to get into the $5,000/month (my idea of a redbelt). Now, because I was willing to stay disciplined and focused I’m making 5 figures per month. Just like you though I still get stuck. This year I did less then last year. I got fancy, tried a lot of different things, tried to do things “my way.” I’m back on the right track again finally after the last couple months and $500k to $1mil is within my reach this year. I don’t say that to brag, but to show you what is possible when you practice discipline and focus. The Solution “There’s a reason why the basics are called THE BASICS” If you’re a rookie then you are a whitebelt. Just like when you practice a martial art, like Karate or Tae Kwon Do, in real life you’ll start out with a few basic punches and kicks. When you master them, then you will be ready for your yellowbelt. When you are a yellowbelt you’ll be given a few more punches and kicks that work a little bit faster and more effectively, so on and so on until you’ve reached your blackbelt. What are the basics you should be practicing? No matter what you are doing from affiliate marketing to selling your own product or service. There are some basic marketing strategies that you must master. Below you’ll find my opinion on what these basics are and some exercises you can do to master them. 1.) Market Research & Copywriting (whitebelt) Name any niche and then go find 2 magazines, 2 forums, 2 clickbank products and 2 competitors. If it doesn’t have at least those minimum requirements then it’s probably not a profitable niche. Now you must use those sources you’ve found to name 7 things that target market is already buying. For each of those 7 items you must write down what problem that purchase solves for the buyer. Now pick one of those 7 items and write out 7 ways purchasing that product will impact the buyers life. Now pick a real life friend of yours and write them a personal email but don’t actually send it. Pretend that friend of yours is a potential customer for that item you picked. Your email to them CANNOT be a sales pitch. You must write it like you would talk to them normally. Think about how you might tell them about a great movie you’ve just seen. You’re job is not to sell stuff but to become a “customer assistant.” If it helps pretend you work for them and your job is to find them solutions to their problems. In that letter you need to include the problem your item solves and the 7 ways it will impact their life. Then ask them to go check it out for themselves. Repeat this exercise over and over until you can complete it within 30 minutes. If you can get to that point you will now be a master at identifying profitable niches, identifying the needs of a market, and writing benefit filled copy with a personal tone. That’s the basics for selling anything online whether it be a clickthrough, opt-in, or product purchase. 2.) Creating Offers & Building A Sales Funnel (yellowbelt) Now we’re taking all of your whitebelt “moves” and applying them to create a real life sales process. First you need to expand upon your personal letters you’ve been writing but not sending. You want to turn those letters into a full blown landing page. For an example you can use my own EasyTaguchi.com - If you want to learn how to write landing pages like that, then there’s nothing I could recommend higher then Mark Acutt’s Cash Presell Method. Here’s a video showing you what you’ll learn in his report. After you’ve written your landing page you need to start driving some traffic to that page. The way I started out was by taking ten keywords related to my offer and starting an Adwords account. I didn’t have much money so I had to keep my budget to $2/day. I put each keyword in it’s own ad group, wrote three different ads (to split test them), and turned off the content network (click fraud). At the end of that month I had made enough to up my campaign to $5/day, then next month to $10/day. I got to where I was buying every click possible for almost 200 different keywords. It didn’t all happen over night though. It took about 4 months to get to that level and that site was making me $3,500 per month before I sold it for $15,000. Once you’ve got your landing page, and some traffic coming in, you need to start tracking your marketing efforts. Meaning using something like Google analytics to track how many visitors you’re getting against how many sales your making. Plus how much it’s costing you to make those sales so you can see whether you are making a profit or not. You want to know things like: How much money am I making (on average) per every visitor that hits my page? How much money am I spending (on average) per sale that comes in? How much profit am I making? Even at this point you may not be making thousands of dollars. If you can at least breakeven at this point then you are doing great. Now you just need to get some advice on how to make things better. Which is where you get into the greenbelt phase (in my opinion). The worst thing you could do at this point is give up. It would be like trying to swim across the english channel and giving up 75% of the way across only to turn around and swim back. That would be moronic right? But people are doing it everyday. It’s much easier to stay on course and ask someone how to make it past the last 25% then it is to turn around and re-swim that 75%. I hope this post has made some lightbulbs go on over your head. I will continue this lesson in another blog post real soon. However, at this point you should know the importance of the basics, having discipline to stay the course, and have some exercises that you can go take action on. What I want you to do now… Re-read this post and create 4 to-do lists. Each to-do list should take you one week to complete. And then next to-do list should move you forward from your last. With your last to-do list having you complete the very last steps mentioned in this post. Example: Week 1 - Find 10 niches - Find 2 of each item for each niche - Name 7 things each niche is already buying - Name what problems those purchases solve for those buyers NOTE: If I get stuck I can ask Justin for help in the Mafia Forum Week 2 - For each niche pick one product they are already buying and write out 7 ways that product impacts their life - Write a letter to one of my friends about each of those products NOTE: If I get stuck I can ask Justin for help in the Mafia Forum Week 3 - Pick my 3 favorite niches from weeks 1 & 2 - Read Mark’s Cash Presell Method from front to back - Go back through the report and follow along with the first niche of my 3 favorites NOTE: If I get stuck I can ask Justin for help in the Mafia Forum Week 4 - Repeat Mark’s process for my other 2 favorite niches that I picked in week 3 Show Justin and ask for the next steps Please don’t just read this post… DO THIS POST! I’ll continue with greenbelt through redbelt in the next blog post that I write. As always I’m here for you with any questions or comment you have. Comments and compliments go down below. Well… Here comes another year and I gotta ask, “Do You Have A Plan?” Because you know what they say - “If You Fail To Plan Then You Plan To Fail.” That cliche is SOOO true for Internet marketers. Where most people’s plan right now is to hope a great course comes out that they can buy and will show them the secret they’ve been waiting to hear. If that’s about what you have planned so far for next year, then I can almost guarantee another long hard year of not reaching your dreams. I’m in no way perfect because I have a plan. Whats more important then having a plan is actually following that plan. Just take a look at all the diet plan’s out there. If it was just about having a plan then we’d all be perfectly fit, instead of something like 70% of the U.S. being overweight. Actually having a plan is the first step in the right direction. From their you need daily to-do lists that keep you moving forward, a time line for implementation, deadlines to keep you on track, and a support group to keep you accountable. The problem most people have is they aren’t even sure how to make a plan or what should go into a marketing plan. So I’ve created for you the basic questions I ask myself to begin making my plans. 1.) What is my goal? (financial and physical) Here I might write something down like, “I want to add another $5,000 in monthly recurring income. Plus, it has to be something that I can easily outsource so it doesn’t become a time burden for me. Otherwise I just won’t keep it up and what’s the point of recurring income if it just adds more and more work to my plate.” 2.) What will it take to reach my goal? This is where I start to reverse engineer my goal of an extra $5,000 per month. I would break it down to three scenarios first like; $97/month x 52 = $5,000/month $29.99/month x 167 = $5,000/month $10/month x 500 = $5,000/month Then I start brainstorming some things I can do to get those numbers. For example, Russell Brunson’s free dvd offer pays out $10/month for every person who stays subscribed to his paid newsletter/dvd of the month club. That’s not the only option though. I just did about 5 minutes of research on CBEngine.com and found one of my mastermind partners products that pays out $47.99 recurring. (xtreme conversions by Amir Darwish) $47.99 x 110 = $5,000 per month Ok, 110 isn’t such a big number that’s just 2 sales per day for less then 2 months. This leads me into the next question… 3.) What marketing system can I use to hit those numbers? My instant reaction is Pay Per Click programs like Adwords, Yahoo, and MSN. Plus, add on some SEO, forum marketing, and pay for a couple sponsored emails to other people’s giant lists. I might also create a short report about the importance of tracking conversions from Adwords and sell it for $7. Then in the report and on my download page I’ll introduce xtreme conversions to my customers. It makes it easier to sell the $7 report and helps pay back my advertising costs right away instead of waiting for my commissions. Now you pretty much have a whole plan. It’s time to mind map it out and start creating your to-do lists, timelines, and deadlines. Then simply start taking massive action to completion. I hope seeing how I break things down helps you get an idea of how to create your own plans. Obviously, you don’t need to have the same numbers as me or even promote the same products. In fact I advise you not to compete against me. (I won’t hate you, but I won’t play nice!) With that said here’s a look at my plan for 2009… This is my actual mind map. Use your mouse to navigate around the map and open up the different sections and notes attached to sections. You can see that continuity is one of the three pillars of our growth strategy. It’s also the most important one in my opinion. Continuity is what keeps all our bills paid so we can have the luxury of time to work on our bigger projects. Continuity is also what keeps us afloat in case one of our projects turns out to be a flop. This was one of our biggest mistakes this year - not focusing hard enough on continuity. We’ve had to work 10x harder this year to make the same amount of money every month. Constantly creating new offers, writing new salesletters, and setting up new marketing campaigns. At last count I’ve written something like 86 salesletters this year. Where if I had been smarter earlier I would have wrote just a couple which would lead into membership sites. That way I could do the work once and have it pay me over and over and over. If I were just starting out I would be taking advantage of offers like Ian Del Carmen’s Membership Wholesaler. For just $47 per month you get 2 fully developed membership sites and everything you need to set up your marketing campaign (salesletters, squeeze pages, graphics, everything!) Stuff like that will jump start your monthly recurring income faster then anything else since all the hard work is already done. Another thing you can do is start up a backlink service using the techniques we teach in SEO Lies. You could easily charge $197/month for 300 backlinks/month and you’d only need 25 customers. If only I had the time to take action on every money making idea I had! Well it looks like I’m beginning to go off on rants so I guess the meat of the lesson is finished. I want you to get out a pen and paper right now and start writing out a plan. Ask yourself the same three questions I told you about above and then do your best to answer them. If you get stuck then ask yourself what knowledge you would need to know to get unstuck. That’s the only time you should be buying Internet marketing products. If it’s something that will get you to the next part of your plan then it’s a good idea. What I hate to see is so many people just buying for no reason other then curiosity and hope. Make a plan, make a plan, make a plan… If you don’t then you know exactly where to point your finger next year when you don’t see your bank account where you want it. As usual, I’m here for you if you need some direction. Just post your questions, comments, and feedback in the comments section below (for complaints just hold down the alt button and press “f” then “x”) Here’s to the best year of your life! Go Bigger, Justin Brooke

Website Flipping is very similar to house flipping - except with website flipping you aren’t taking out hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt to get started. With website flipping you’re buying a website (or building it from scratch), improving the value of the website, and then selling it to another owner that will continue to manage the site. There are three levels of website flipping; The Developer, The Marketer, and The Investor. Each level requires a different level of internet know how. I highly suggest checking out the post called “Getting Started” - so you can find the level that suits you best.
The first thing I started doing to try and fix my life was to look for opportunities. I had seen some stuff about how to make money online and work from home. That sounded pretty cool, so I started looking into it. In the beginning I SUCKED BAD at making money online! I couldn’t make a website make me money for the life of me. I even paid money to buy different ebooks and they were good, but I was still doing something wrong. Then almost on accident I found this website that would let me sell websites called Sitepoint.com - I figured I had nothing to lose. So I decided what the heck let’s list one of my failed websites for sale and see if anyone else out there wants to buy it from me. 2 days later that website sells for $50!!! My website that failed horribly had just been bought by someone else for $50 - WAAHHHOOOO! This is when I realized that there were people much smarter than me who knew what to do with these sites. They bought my sites, then made a few changes, and BAM now they were making money with them. Well 3-6 months goes buy and I’m doing the same things. Buying ebooks, making websites, failing at Internet marketing, and then selling my sites. One day I’m doing this exercise I learned about and I realize… “Hey, I am making money online.” Everytime I sell one of these websites I make $50 - $500 bucks. This is about when I said to myself “there’s something to this website selling thing.” I started doing some research and sure enough a couple people were making a real business out of this and it was called website flipping. It was in it’s very early days back then, but all the same this was a real money making opportunity. I was making about $2,000 per month with it at this time. I decided I would get focused and solely work on flipping more sites. Although, if I wanted to make more money at it I needed to know how to make better sites. There were people selling websites for $2,000, $5,000, and even $20,000 each. Then I Found My Coach… My Internet marketing coach showed me the little things I was doing wrong with my websites and my own product sites. They were very small things I was doing wrong. As soon as I changed them my sites started getting traffic and making money. I started reinvesting the money I was making from website flipping into marketing my new sites. In about 4 months, I sold my first 5 figure website! My girlfriend (wife now) and I as well as my family couldn’t believe it when I sold a website for $15,000. It took me only 4 months to make 90% of what I was making in a whole year at my job! Selling that site for 5 figures was actually pretty easy to do once I knew the right system. The only hard part was learning how transfer $15,000 from the buyer’s bank to my bank safely. That was the summer that I married my girlfriend in Thousand Islands, NY. We got married right in front of Boldt Castle on Heart Island. My whole family was there and it was a great vacation. Every summer we go back to Thousand Islands, NY on the St. Lawrence river for a whole weeks vacation. In fact last summer we took a 30 day vacation and traveled to 11 states in 25 days! All thanks to website flipping.
If you’re promoting Clickbank products in the “make money online” niche chances are you’re sales are leaking out all over the place. This reason alone could be why you think “it doesn’t work.” Here are my top tools and methods for plugging the leaks in your Clickbank affiliate marketing… 1.) The Commission Hijacking Hole This has become SOOO rampant that it’s to the point where I’m almost not JV’ing with product owners that use Clickbank as their merchant account. Basically what happens is this… Everyone in the IM niche pretty much already has a Clickbank account which means they also have a Clickbank affiliate nickname. So when you link off to your product like Learn More About Magic of Making Up Here then all I have to do to steal your commission is right click on your link, copy the link address to notepad, then write in my own Clickbank affiliate nickname. Just like that your sales are lost and it would have taken me about 30 seconds to steal your money. What most people do instead is make a redirect link that way there is no copy/paste way to steal the commission. It’s not foolproof but neither are the locks on your house doors… Technically someone could use more advanced tools to unlock your lock. However, it does thwart a larger percentage of the crowd. Just like putting a lock on your bike in the school yard. The bully skips over your locked bike and goes to find someone elses unlocked bike. Well there’s another trick for those people too. Now this one might raise some eyebrows for someo of you with weeker stomachs and hippie roots. It’s called cookie stuffing! AHHHH RUN HE SAID COOKIE STUFFING!!!! Cookie stuffing has gotten a really bad name in our industry because of a few bad apples who use it in the wrong way. What they do is create these webpages that are stuffed to the gills with cookies for lots of different products. NOTE: Cookie = a little piece of code your browser reads to capture information about you So you visit these blackhatter sites and all of a sudden it’s like you’ve clicked on hundreds of their links. Now they’ll get commissions for products they never even promoted to you or told you about. That’s the wrong and illegal way and that’ll get you banned from affiliate programs REALLY quick. It’s also because of those bad apples that the good cookie stuffers get in trouble now and then also. A good cookie stuffer is just trying to protect his commissions from the thieves. A good cookie stuffer is only stuffing you with the cookies for the products he’s telling you about on his page. In fact a good cookie stuff will even tell you he’s an affiliate for those products and gets paid a comission if you buy them through him. For a good cookie stuffer it means that as soon as you land on his page you are already cookied with his affiliate information. Which means that you’ll have to delete your cookies AND make your own link in order to steal his affiliate commission. There is also one last way to stop a commission theif… Offer an irresistable custom bonus to the offer if they buy from you. Now if that Clickbank affiliate wants to steal your commissions they’ll have to make their own link, delete their cookies, and pass up of a great bonus product. You won’t stop everyone but if you stopped just half of the comission thieves it could mean the difference between a profitable campaign and an unprofitable campaign. AND THATS HUGE! If you’re ok with messing around with the code of your website you can do this for free by reading Brent’s “Broke Ass Cash Plan” website. If you’re not a techy then http://www.affiliatecloner.com is software that stops these leaks for you. 2.) The Crappy Sales Page Hole One of the biggest reasons I don’t promote more Clickbank stuff as an affiliate is 75% of the salesletters for the Clickbank products are horrible. Some of them have blatant lies, push the boundaries of earnings disclaimers, have horrible copy, and plain ole just don’t convert well. In all my experience marketing online I’ve learned that all it takes to turn a campaign from profitable to unprofitable is the sales conversion rate. Even as little as a 0.1 loss can make the difference in some campaigns. What surprises me the most is that thousands of affiliates are busting their butts and paying for traffic through the nose to try and make these horrible salesletters convert for them. It kinda upsets me that I can help them all. I can help you though… This is what I do if the salesletter sucks but the offer is still right for the market. I re-write their salesletter using my “works everytime” copywriting formula. Then my order button links directly to that products specific order page. Now this is not MY order page this is the original product creators order page. Just like I clicked their order button on their salesletter. Some product owners will not like you doing this, because again the bad apples ruin everything. The bad apples learned about this and decided to make salespages that lied about the product. Claiming things about the product that were untrue in favor of getting more sales. The good ones are just trying to help the product owner make more sales by having a higher converting sales process. While leaving all the original data intact and not making any false claims. This way you now have a good strong salespage to lead your affiliate traffic too and once they click to order everything returns to normal and no one even knows what happened. Other then the product owner seeing you becomming his top affiliate. Again, if you’re ok with messing around with the code behind you’re website you can do this stuff for free. Here’s a video that show you how to bypass Clickbank salesletters and skip right to the order page. When you retard the amount of commission theft + use your own sales process + add irresistable custom bonuses… You can’t help but to make more money as a Clickbank affiliate. If you’re not a techy then http://www.affiliatecloner.com is software that stops these leaks for you. If you’d like to learn more about these methods I have step-by-step videos in our SiteFling Mafia site. As well as having the support of our family to get critques, guidance, and direction.
Split testing is the mother of all profit increasers (is that a word?). Literally, you can just change a few different elements on your site and double your profits. The reason hardly anyone ever actually DOES this is because it can be a little intimidating to setup the first time. However, if you use KaizenTrack it comes with all kinds of video tutorials, great customer support, professional installation, user manuals, and even a peer support forum. I looked for a long time to find software that could go from as little as basic a/b split testing all the way to using the famous taguchi method. While not taking a rocket scientist to setup and use. KaizenTrack was the only one that looked like a normal fella could use it. If you just watch the demo videos alone you’ll see how easy it is to use. In fact I never even read the whole page. I watched two of the demo videos and it showed me all I needed to see. Ever since then I’ve been a KaizenTrack lover. If you want to get even deeper into split testing, then I suggest you check out David Bullock who is the leading taguchi method expert. David has lots of info on his blog at DavidBullock.com about testing and tracking plus courses you can buy to really become a master. In fact I found a video about David that I want to share with you… If you want 200% - 300% ROI on your Adwords campaigns… KaizenTrack & David Bullock are what you need! http://www.kaizentrack.com
Continuity Is The Blood Of Business It’s incredibly hard to find a new customer. That’s what most small businesses struggle with everyday. Especially in times like these when all of America feels like the sky is gunna fally anyday now. That’s why the businesses that are doing the best are the ones that have continuity built into their business model. Just take a look at NetFlix… Blockbuster used to be the big man on campus when it came to video renting. They had a “one off” business model though. They only made money when a customer actually cared enough to come into their store and pick out a new rental. Then out came NetFlix with a “rent as much as you want for $19.99/month” and Blockbuster started wilting away like a flower in the winter. The same thing applies to our smaller world of Internet marketing. It used to be that you could just sell a lot of ebooks and you would be fine. Not anymore… Every guru now has their own continuity program. They don’t have to find nearly as many customers as you because their customers keep paying them over and over. Today continuity programs in the IM space range from a software they created and let you have access too for a monthly cost, an interview series, an offline newsletter, or a membership site. And the best ones are the ones where they are shipping you a physical product. That’s because physical products don’t get refunded nearly as much as digital products. In this video below I give you some great resources for getting physical products created very cheap. As well as some resources for creating membership sites. Watch this video right away…
In order to make money online you either gotta have a product to sell or be an affiliate for someone who already has a product. Today we’re talking about creating your own product. Which is how I’ve made over a quarter million dollars in the last two years. 19 Ways To Create A Product #1 Software Creation - Creating software is one of the easiest ways to create a product fast. You can create something for almost any niche. I have one client who had a public domain book about dream interpretation - so he had someone create a software program for under $100 where the user could type in a word, and if found that interpretation in the book and displayed it for the end user. How do I create my own software?Think up a product and post it to one of the following sites…scriptlance.com, elance.com, guru.com, or rentacoder.com #2 Public Domain - This is one of my FAVORITES!!! These are “works” where the copyrights have expired. You are able to take these and re-package them and sell them as your own products! You can search for titles at: http://www.gutenberg.org #3 Interviews - Interview an expert in ANY field and sell the recordings and/or the transcripts. This is the best way to become an expert in any field - just interview the experts and people will see you as one of them. #4 Seminar Videos - Put on your own seminar, record it with a video camera and sell the footage. #5 Re-niche content - If you’re selling a product (or bought rights to a product) - you can re-niche it for a different audience. Example: if you sell a book about speed reading, re-niche it to “speed reading for students.” #6 Book on CD - Record yourself reading your book and sell it on CD. Use Kunaki.com to fulfill and dropship those CD’s for you. #7 Resource CD - Compile a list of resources for a specific niche, and sell the directory. I’ve personally bought resources on supplements directories and also one on “spy” stuff. (I know - I’m a geek) #8 Recycle content - Take products or content you’ve created in the past and re-use it. *Recycle what you’re doing now.* #9 Camtasia Video - This is one of the most powerful tools online marketers have. Create screen capture videos of anything you can do on your computer. Demos of software - PowerPoint slides, how to… anything computer related. Think how much moolah the “computer professor” makes by making “how to” videos for different Microsoft products. #10 Idea collection - Combine a list of ideas and sell those. I’ve got friends who sell list of ideas on how to make money quickly, how to clean your carpets, how to take care of lawns, etc… #11 Others experts submit content - Get others to submit articles, or audios, or videos, and compile them into a product. I did this with one of my wrestling products. I had people submit their best stories, pictures and poems and compiled them into a product. #12 Podcasts - Like an online radio show that you can download. Have paid podcasts - or record a bunch, then take the recordings and put them onto CD’s. #13 Membership sites - Have residual income coming in when people pay you over and over again for access to your membership site. You can provide content in your membership sites - or create software programs that people have to pay monthly to use. #14 Teleseminars - Just record yourself interviewing someone or teaching on a subject that you know a lot about. The majority of my products were created with some type of teleseminar. #15 Ghostwriters - Hire someone (think outsourcing) to write a book on a subject that you want to sell. #16 Free coaching calls - Do free coaching calls for your members, track their progress, then compile the recordings into a product. #17 Mastermind roundtables - Get a group of experts together and have them discuss the subject - record the full thing and you’ve got an instant product! #18 Private Label - Similar to public domain, but usually created w/ the intent to sell w/out a copyright. A million ways to use private label stuff. Most people fail at this because they try to sell the content “as is.” Be sure to make it your own and you’ll have a ton of success with these. #19 Case studies - One of the best products I bought this year is 12 hours of case studies. The people teaching the course compiled hundreds of case studies for the subject we were learning about, and then explained how they all worked. Thanks to Russell Brunson for teaching me those strategies. Using those product creation methods along with what we teach about SEO is a surefire way to earning tons of money online. If you want to know how to make products overnight then I suggest you check out an old friend of mines website. It’s called Overnight Product Creation by Brian McElroy. Brian and I go way back, almost two - three years ago we met in Wealthy Affiiate. Which is a membership site that has a forum for people learning how to make money online. We were both just starting out back then and we’ve watched each other bust through lots of barriers. I remember when Brian kicked my but at launching WSO’s. He did this one with another guy JD and they did six figures in like one weekend or something. It was crazy! Anyhow, his Overnight Product Creation is a really good course for anyone who doesn’t have a product yet. He’s got the course on a wordpress blog just like you are on here. That way you can ask questions under each lesson and get them answered by Brian himself. Plus, watch as other people get their questions answered which I think can be even more valuable. "Matt Bacak says it best “If you have no numbers you have no business” What he means is that if you are running a business but don’t know how many customers you have, how much profit you are making, what your sales conversion rate is… Then you are on your way to failure. I remember back when I was first getting online and learned about website analytics. I went nuts with it! I started tracking and testing everything. The more I did the more money I made!!! Website analytics may be the most boring part of marketing but if used correctly they can be the most profitable. Using Scare Tactics In Your PPC Earlier this week I interviewed another marketer named Justin. I’d tell you his last name but I can’t spell it right for the life of me. Now this guy is a real deal “duru” of PPC. (Duru = Someone who makes a lot of money doing instead of teaching) He recently created a product based on what he does for a living. It’s not his bread winner but it is an amazing course about pay per click marketing. In the interview I got him to talk about the three biggest mistakes people make with their PPC marketing. As well as what he would do if he had to start all over from scratch. Some great information was shared in the 30 minutes that we talked. I’m sure you’ll be real happy with the interview. And if you are interested in starting to use PPC to drive more traffic to your websites I advise you buy his course. But don’t buy it if you’re not planning on using PPC - That would be wasteful. Here’s the interview below… Click Here To Learn More About PPCScareTactics + OfferWarnings In the 3 years that I’ve been doing this Internet marketing stuff I’ve made a lot of cool friends.
