American writer Sidney Sheldon has died from pneumonia at the age of 89. Best known to televison fans are the creator of both I Dream of Jeannie and The Patty Duke Show, Sheldon wrote not only television but also motion pictures, plays, and books. During his lengthy career, he won three major entertainment awards: an Emmy for I Dream of Jeannie, a Tony for the musical Redhead, and an Oscar for the comedy The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer (a favorite of mine).
