The Dark Knight came out in 2008 and was directed and partly written by Christopher Nolan. The flick was inspired on the comics character "The Batman", the movie is part of Nolan's Batman movie series and a sequel to 2005's feature Batman Begins. The film follows Bruce Wayne/Batman, District Attorney Harvey Dent/Two-Face, and Police Commissioner James Gordon and their scramble and campaign in combating the new growing threat of a criminal who goes by the title of the Joker.

The film was a soaring success. The premiere for The Dark Knight was in New York on July 14, 2008, screening in an IMAX theater. The Dark Knight was a record setter on the opening day of July 18, 2008 with $18.5 million, topping the $16.9 million record set by Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith in 2005 on their midnight showings.

The United States and Canada, had the film "The Dark Knight" showing at over 4,300 movie theaters. The number of theaters also included 94 IMAX theaters, with the film estimated to be played on 9,200 screens in the United States and Canada. Online, ticketing services sold enormous numbers of tickets for approximately 3,000 midnight show times as well as unusually early show times for the film's opening day.

Being such a success many are wondering when the next Batman film will be out.

While speaking at the Comic-Con panel for his new movie, Gary Oldman let slip to the crowd that the next Batman film will start shooting in 2010, with a release date of sometime in 2011. When Warner Bros. was asked they had no comment.

At one point you even had cast members talking about the characters planned for the third chapter in the new Batman story, going so far as to talk about actors being approached, Christopher Nolan did admitted that no work was made on that though.
That disclaimer aside, Katey Rich got the chance to talk to one of my favorite Dark Knight actors, Michael Caine, who admitted the third chapter may not be as close as we hoped.
Nolan kind of did the same thing after Batman Begins. Everyone was crazy for an immediate follow up, and he went and made The Prestige. Now he's taking time away from Batman to make Inception, which will likely put a third picture as far away as three years, according to Caine.

For some great Batman Images check out the site http://www.batmanimages.org
