<p><p> For good, a California court has upheld the new regulations which will prohibit insurance companies from basing their rates on ZIP codes. Judge Loren E. McMaster of the Sacramento Superior Court has decided in favor of consumers in the courts’ decision on the lawsuit which was filed by the insurance industry. This case is one which disputes the adoption of a new insurance regulation which will benefit good drivers no matter what their ZIP code is. The court ruled that insurance companies should base insurance premiums on the driving records and not primarily on their ZIP code, marital status or other factors.<br /> <br /> Mark Savage, Senior Attorney for Consumers Union, stated that the “ruling confirms what we have known all along”. Savage added further that “California’s new auto insurance regulations are fair and will benefit good drivers throughout the state. Good drivers will get a break on their premiums and will be protected from discrimination based on their ZIP code”. <br /> <br /> The regulation, since it was implemented in August of last year has been of great help to car owners. Since the regulation requires insurance companies to file new regulation with regard to their rates, California drivers have saved significantly. The Department of Insurance has stated that with the new regulation, insurance premiums were cut down by as much as $1.01 billion since the start of the implementation of the said regulation. This saving can be likened to the cutback enjoyed by a driver if he opts for an <a href="http://www.activebrakesdirect.com/ebcpads.html" title="EBC pad">EBC pad</a> for the brake system of his car. <br /> <br /> The verdict of Judge McMaster lay to rest the lawsuit filed by the insurance industry. In his decision, he cited that the regulation adopted by Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi is not “arbitrary or capricious”. This is contrary to what the American Insurance Association has sustained. As a matter of fact, Judge McMaster found out that the regulation is consistent with the Proposition 103 which was passed by California voters in 1988. Proposition 103 stated that insurance companies are required to base their premium rates on three factors. These factors are: the policyholder’s driving safety record, annual miles driven, and years of driving experience. The said proposition also stated that other factors such as ZIP code of the driver must be given less weight in the determination of auto rates. <br /> <br /> Consumers Union, which took the lead in the intervention in the trial, is also the same institution which urged then Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi to make a regulation that will be necessary in the implementation of Proposition 103. The institution has gone through the three years of public hearings presented report after report which show that basing auto rates on ZIP codes is not helping and even hurts good divers. <br /> <br /> In one of their reports, the Consumers Union presented facts that insurance companies charge drivers from small communities significantly more than what they charge for good drivers living in selected suburban and urban communities. Another discrimination found out by the Union is that insurers charge more from drivers who live in areas which are predominantly African American or Latino communities. <br /> <br /> After the three years of public hearings and the amount of reports shown by the Consumers Union, Garamendi arrived at the conclusion that using ZIP codes as the main factor which determines auto rates were unfair and arbitrary. With these conclusions, the Insurance Commission adopted the regulation which forbids insurance companies from basing their premium rates on the ZIP codes of drivers. No, it did not go away, it actually just got worse! </p> <p>The Google toolbar is not new news to anyone who has been around for a spell. The Autolink feature has already caused much debate, and has webmasters in a tailspin as to how to protect themselves from it. Well folks, there is some thing you should know.</p> <p>In The Beginning...</p> <p>When Google made known its addition of the Autolink feature, they had defended themselves, after receiving a ton of mail about it from webmasters, by saying that the Autolink feature had to be activated by the user. It was the individual toolbar user's choice as to whether or not to activate and use it. Autolink is an enhanced service offered by Google.</p> <p>Yeah, Right!</p> <p>According to a recent article by Jim Hedger, Google has reversed itself. They have made the default setting for the application active, not inactive, as they had previously claimed.</p> <p>What Google Autolink does is to add outside links to your web pages, based on keyword relevancy. You, as a webmaster, have no control over what links are added to your site. (Sounds like copyright infringement to me.)</p> <p>We online professionals, work our fingers to the bone, trying to achieve the highest Google ranking possible, in our desire to make it on the Internet. We work and re-work our copy, page layout, and anything else we think will grab the almighty Google's attention. All this, just to have Google's Autolink take that hard earned visitor to your competitor's site. And... To add insult to injury, Google will probably make buckets of money doing it! They claim to stand no financial gain through this, but personally... I find that hard to believe.</p> <p>Think about this:With millions of new Internet users coming online for the first time, almost daily, how many toolbars do you think will be downloaded from Google? Toolbars are candy to newbies. These newbies are your potential customers, and Google will be snatching them away from you, using your own web site as bait!</p> <p>The reality is that anyone with a Live Google toolbar in their browser, will have to reset their preference to make Google Autolink inactive, and most users will not know this. </p> <p>So what can be done about this? Well, for starters, you can protect your site pages with an Google Autolink Killer script. Try to educate those you know. Let people know that if they're going to use the toolbar, (which I don't recommend anyway...) to turn the Autolink feature off. You can write to Google to complain, but there is too much money in it for them to abandon it. It'll probably have to take a court action to get the thing banned. (Anybody know a good class action lawyer?)</p> <p>One thing to note about the toolbar itself; it is said to only work in IE (Internet Explorer), so all the more reason to switch to using Firefox, and get everyone else you know to switch too.</p> <br><br> Trina L.c. <p><p>According to the American Lung Association, smoking-related diseases claim an estimated 438,000 American lives each year, including those affected indirectly, such as babies born prematurely due to prenatal maternal smoking and victims of exposure to tobacco's carcinogens through secondhand smoke. <br /> <br /> Approximately $167 billion each year in health-care costs, an average of $3,702 per adult smoker. It has been shown that quitting smoking now greatly reduces risks of heart disease, emphysema, and other serious medical conditions, and several drugs have been developed to assist patients in quitting smoking.<br /> <br /> Chantix or Champix, known also as Varenicline Tartrate, is a prescription medicine given to patients seeking to end their smoking addiction. In the past, quitting aids have mostly focused on Nicotine Replacement Therapies (NRT's) which use a limited release of nicotine into the body to ease cravings. <br /> <br /> The drug operates without using any nicotine. Instead, it focuses on reducing cravings and decreasing the pleasurable effects of cigarettes and other tobacco products, specifically as a partial agonist that activates release of 35 to 60% of the dopamine that nicotine would have caused. <br /> <br /> Common side effects of the drug include nausea, headache, difficulty sleeping and abnormal dreams. It is estimated that 5 million prescriptions have been written and Pfizer, the medicine's manufacturer, reports there are 3 million Americans taking Chantix now.<br /> <br /> In November 2007, the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) began investigating reports of depression, agitation and suicidal behavior among patients taking the medicine, after they had received reports of 37 suicides and more than 400 of suicidal behaviors in connection with the non-smoking aid. A link between Chantix and serious psychiatric complications is becoming progressively probable, according to the FDA. <br /> <br /> Additionally, the drug may further worsen preexisting psychiatric illness or cause a recurrence of past issues. Two weeks after this report, Pfizer added stronger drug warnings to the drug's packaging, stating publicly that while a direct link between the drug and the reported psychiatric problems did not exist, the possibility of the drug-induced psychotic episodes could not be ruled out. <br /> <br /> Pfizer has suggested that these episodes of irrational behavior have been caused by nicotine withdrawal. However, the FDA's findings stated that even those patients who had continued smoking had similar psychiatric episodes. Indeed, cases of such extreme psychiatric problems have not manifested themselves as prominently in over the counter quitting aids, such as NRT's. <br /> <br /> The most publicized case thus far has been that of Carter Albrecht, who, after assaulting his girlfriend, was shot and killed by his neighbor who mistook him for a burglar. Some questioned the bizarre circumstances surrounding Albrecht's death, and many close to him blamed his irrational behavior on the drug. In fact, after ABC published the story on their website, they received over 200 comments on the article, the large majority of them describing similar reactions of nightmares, depression, suicide ideation, broad mood swings, and generally abnormal behavior. <br /> <br /> Many of these cases involved consumption of a moderate to heavy amount of alcohol, but an almost equal number reported these severe side effects with no alcohol imbibed. The possibility of real serious adverse side effects from the drug, including a relationship between the drug and suicide seems more and more likely.<br /> <br /> Considering the evidence, it would appear that the drug has produced extreme or serious effects in a larger percentage of patients than what was originally found in the FDA tests. <br /> <br /> Thoughts of suicide, euphoric to depressed mood swings, anxiety, and hallucinations appear to be almost common in the majority of available information from patients reporting back. The $550 million-worth Honda plant dubbed as the Honda Manufacturing of Indiana, LLC (HMIN) will build the popular fuel-efficient Civic sedan.<br /> <br /> The new Honda plant has 2,000 associates to take care of the Civic sedan production which is scheduled to begin in the fall of next year. HMIN will be managed by Yuzo Uenohara, its first president. Uenohara is the former senior vice president at Honda Manufacturing of Alabama, LLC.<br /> <br /> "In Indiana we will create an efficient and flexible manufacturing environment that is a great place for everyone to work," said Koichi Kondo, the president and CEO of American Honda Motor Co., Inc., and chief operating officer of Honda's North American Regional operations. "In this way, we are breaking ground for more than an auto plant. We are breaking new ground in our relationship with the people of Indiana and our customers in America."<br /> <br /> The automaker has first announced its plan to build the new plant on June 28, 2006. The plant is intended to cater to a total production capacity of 200,000 vehicles per year. This move is aimed at meeting the growing customers demand. <br /> <br /> The site preparation for the plant is complete and the construction has started on a 1,700-acre tract in Decatur County, Indiana. The place is near Greensburg, which is 50 miles southeast of Indianapolis.<br /> <br /> HMIN is the automaker’s seventh plant in North America. It will also be part of the 17 major Honda manufacturing facilities in said territory. The plant is expected to bolster Honda’s total North American production capacity from 1.4 million units to over 1.6 million by next year. The plant is expected to hold more than 37,000 associates. Additionally, it is intended to boost the North American capital investment to over $9 billion.<br /> <br /> "Over the years, we will ask the associates of Honda Manufacturing of Indiana for their ideas to make our products better and the plant the safest place it can be," said Uenohara, the new president of Honda Manufacturing of Indiana. Inside, Interceptor is minimalist but sleek, and it's all business."<br /> <br /> The Airstream with its futuristic design is a product of the partnership between Ford and RV. According to him, “The MKR Concept have stance and profile are more sporting than stately. It has a dynamic, sloping belt line with a beveled edge, a strong C-pillar and an elegant rear that falls away like the train of an evening gown. Most of these cues are inspired by iconic Lincolns of the past. This car looks thoroughly Lincoln and very modern."<br /> <br /> Aside from the three concept vehicles, Mark Fields, Ford President for the Americas has also offered reporters the chance to view the 2008 F-Series Super Duty and saying that the F-Series reflects Ford’s commitment to remain as one of America’s leading truck company. <br /> <br /> In a statement Fields said, "Thirty years of F-Series leadership is just the beginning. While the competition has been furiously benchmarking us, we've been inventing the future trucks that continue raising the bar. The new Super Duty, which is all new for 2008, is our most capable pickup ever.
