Finding a good wedding emcee can be tricky. A family member or a friend of the couple-to-be is commonly the first choice for the role, to give it a more personal touch. Yet, oftentimes none of them is up or qualified for the role. In the first place, it takes more than public speaking skill to become an effective wedding host. In such case, there are professional wedding emcees that can be hired.
Before picking the one, meet several suppliers first and ask for sample reels – that way, you can determine the style of the host and see if it fits the tone you prefer.
For guidelines, wedding emcee and professional singer Alexyz Arcilla shares what qualities to look for in a good wedding host
* Rapport. Beyond being fluent, a wedding emcee must have the ability to build rapport with the audience.
* Passion. It is easier to work with someone who likes what he is doing. A wedding emcee must be willing to exert extra effort to make the event successful. He must know how to manage the flow of events, including talking to caterer to make sure the food is served on time.
* Spontaneity. No dead air during a wedding program, please. After all, it’s the job of a wedding emcee to keep the party alive. A wedding host must be able to think fast and fill awkward moments with fun and lively remarks.
* Heart. In a special occasion, tears are almost always present. A wedding emcee must be sensitive enough to identify what the circumstances require - from letting the audience feel the solemnity of an unexpected gesture to getting the festive mood back.
* Image. People prefer someone visually pleasant to lead an event. A wedding emcee must be able to carry him with confidence in front of the guests.
