If you’ve ever followed the work of theater directors, you may notice that they often work with many of the same actors repeatedly. Whether you’re an actor, dancer, singer or model, it’s important to remember that cultivating relationships with decision makers in the entertainment industry is paramount to career longevity. If a successful director takes a liking to you, that could mean steady work for you for years to come.
In 1992, 21-year old model Kimberly Pandelios told her husband that she was meeting with a photographer. However the man who’d led her to believe he was a photographer was actually a registered sex offender who lured Pandelios into the Angeles National Forest where he sexually assaulted and killed her.

As the number of entertainment scams targeting aspiring actors, singers, dancers and models escalate, and scammers become more sophisticated in their methods, it can be tricky to identify the difference between a scam and a legitimate opportunity.

Elite Casting Network posts casting calls daily for a variety of modeling jobs. Whether you’re interested in runway, catalog or swimwear modeling, there’s something for everyone on our website. One of our most recent casting calls was for fit (also referred to as garment fitting) models. Fit models are critical to the fashion industry. They work with manufacturers and fashion designers so that the clothing companies can fit their designs to human frames. Have you ever put on a pair of jeans and they fit perfectly? There was probably a fit model with a body type similar to yours that helped the designer tailor the jeans for you and others like you!

One of the most common requirements included in dance casting notices is that the dancers must be able to pick up choreography quickly.
Not everyone who professes to be an acting coach is actually qualified to teach you to become a better actor or actress. Therefore it’s important that before you pay for acting classes that you interview your acting coach to determine that they are: 1) trained and experienced and 2) capable of and excited about helping you reach your personal performance goals. A great acting coach will not only help you become the phenomenal actor or actress that you’d always dreamed of being, but also help guide you as you navigate the early stages of your acting career.
If there was such a thing as an actor’s toolkit, what do you think would be in it? Of course all actors need a headshot and resume. A Star Search Casting membership is another essential item that every actor should also have. Some might say that every actor should prepare and have committed to memory a song that they can sing well to audition for roles that require both acting and singing. And for actors who are interested in musical theater and audition frequently, a pair of character shoes is a must.
If there was such a thing as an actor's toolkit, what do you think would be in it? Of course all actors need a headshot and resume. A Elite Casting Network membership is another essential item that every actor should also have. Some might say that every actor should prepare and have committed to memory a song that they can sing well to audition for roles that require both acting and singing. And for actors who are interested in musical theater and audition frequently, a pair of character shoes is a must. When auditioning for musical theater, many casting notices specify that actors must bring character shoes for their audition. Character shoes are named for their use in theater because they are worn when actresses and actors are performing "in character." They look very similar to tap shoes, and some actually can be ordered with taps. Character shoes typically come in tan or black, with leather soles, and are designed for rigorous movement and dancing for long periods of time. Directors and casting professionals also prefer character shoes for actors because they provide a sense of uniformity. Character shoes, especially for men, may also be referred to as jazz shoes. If you're purchasing a pair of character shoes for the first time, here are a few tips you may find useful: - Although character shoes are sold widely online, you may consider visiting a retail establishment to try on a few pairs to determine which style you prefer. You can then comparison shop for the same brand and style online. - Character shoes for women are made with varying heel heights. Be sure to pick a height that you'll be comfortable with. - Break your character shoes in by wearing them around the house. - Wipe the bottoms of your character shoes (if worn outside) before dancing on wooden floors Character shoes are available at a variety of price points and can range from $30 - $130. One of the most popular brands of character shoes is Capezio, however there are lots of consumer reviews online that can also help you decide which brand would be best for you. Feel free to discuss brands, prices and the best retail stores and websites to purchase character shoes on our community forum. Recently a Elite Casting Network member posted an email they received to the community forum because they had concerns that the email was apart of a scam. The email was from the Byron Sanders Advertising Agency, a company that sells advertising, marketing and public relations services and claims to help rising stars get media exposure through major television networks, the Internet and print advertising. The company is listed as the Byron Sanders Marketing Media Management Agency with the Better Business Bureau. The company is based in Dallas, Texas and is not a BBB accredited company. The company has an unsatisfactory record with the BBB due to failure to respond to a complaint. In the last 36 months, two complaints have been filed against the company - one of which has been closed. This information doesn't necessarily mean that the company is involved in a scam. Most companies that have been involved in scams have a far greater number of complaints within that span of time. However, there are several red flags. The first is that due to the nature of the industry that the company is in ÃÂ advertising, marketing and public relations ÃÂ it's somewhat suspicious that there is limited information about the company on the web. If a company claims to be able to promote you, then you'd definitely want to go with a company that is able to promote themselves. For example, Ken Sunshine has worked to promote actors such as Ben Affleck, Justin Timberlake and Leonardo DiCaprio. A Google search for Ken Sunshine's name returns over 20,000 records, while a search for the Byron Sanders Advertising Agency returns only six results.Secondly, the company claims to be the "greatest advertising agency in the worldÃÂ " however the company is not a member of the American Association of Advertising Agencies. Lastly, in the email that was sent to one of our members, the representative asked them to email them back and state how much money they were willing to invest in promoting themselves. Reputable advertising and public relations agencies are not "name your price" businesses. These companies work for specific fees, on a project-by-project basis, or on a monthly retainer. For aspiring actors, singers, dancers and models, there will be a time where you will need the assistance of public relations and marketing professionals to help you boost your career. However this point generally comes once you've found an agent and have booked one or more significant jobs. Additionally, your agent or manager at that time can pair you with a marketing and public relations agency with a great reputation and a strong track record. For more information on entertainment-related Internet scams, log in to http://www.EliteCastingNetwork.com each day and check out our Scam alert.
One of the most exciting times of the year for actors is pilot season. If you're new to the industry, you're probably wondering what the heck I'm talking about. Let me explain.A lot goes into launching a new network series. So much so, that many series actually never make it to the primetime lineup. A pilot episode is an episode of a new series that's taped so that networks can submit it to advertisers, test audiences and the media to begin gauging responses and building a buzz.Pilot season refers to the time of year that networks begin casting for pilot episodes. While pilot season generally begins in January, some shows can begin casting even earlier. Casting for pilots is a huge deal for actors for several reasons. First, dozens of pilots are shot each season, so there are lots of opportunities to get in front of top casting agents and producers. Secondly, if you've ever dreamed of landing a job on a major television network series, pilot season is by far your best shot. And third, if you book a show that doesn't get "picked up" (selected to air during the upcoming season), simply booking the pilot is a major career accomplishment! When you tape a pilot, casting directors and producers will often remember you when other opportunities arise, which often means a really great shot at other major roles in the future. In 1999, Busy Phillips (White Chicks) booked a pilot entitled, Saving Graces. Although the pilot was never aired, she got a lot of great exposure and later went on to book a number of really great roles on various television series like Malcolm in the Middle, Dawson's Creek, How I Met Your Mother as well as several roles in major motion pictures. Sure it was a bummer when Saving Graces didn't make the fall lineup, but despite that one little bump in the road, Busy went on to become a popular, working actress.Pilot season could be a great opportunity for you to get your foot in the door so make sure you're ready! As casting directors gear up for this busy time of the year, be very vigilant about checking updated casting notices and audition information on our website. You never know, I might be watching you on a major network series next fall! Good luck! How to Get Cast in the Role of a Lifetime
Each year thousands of model searches and open calls are held online and all over the country. Model searches and open calls are some of the best ways to increase an aspiring modelÃÂs chances of being discovered by a major agency. In addition to the possibility of landing a contract or deal, model searches are a great opportunity to make contacts, learn more about how the industry works, and win great prizes including cosmetics, clothing, and other really great perks. If youÃÂve heard you have to go to New York in order to get signed to a prominent modeling agency ÃÂ thatÃÂs simply not true. Agencies are just as determined to find new faces as you are to get signed. In addition to model searches and open calls in even some of the smallest towns, many larger agencies work with scouts from Jacksonville, Florida to Tacoma, Washington to find their next big client. As an aspiring model, it can be difficult to know which opportunities to take advantage of when trying to land an agent and launch your career. Model searches and open calls are extremely helpful to aspiring models because: Most model searches typically cost less than $50 to participate and most open are free ÃÂ there are some exceptions. You can find model searches in your own hometown, or online which means you donÃÂt have to spend an arm and a leg on travel and accommodations.Model searches are a great opportunity to get feedback from industry professionals who can advise you on your strength and your weaknesses. You can get a better idea of what kind of work youÃÂre best suited for, ex. Runway, catalog, etc. If youÃÂve been doing your homework then you know that Elite Model Management is the largest modeling agency in the world, representing more than 800 models from five continents. Models previously represented by Elite include Tyra Banks, Claudia Schiffer, Heidi Klum, and Gisele Bundchen. If Elite can help those models rise to fame, then imagine what they could do for you! Well signing with Elite may just be easier than you think. Aspiring models often think that meeting with a large agency without dazzling photos is almost impossible, but thatÃÂs not true at all. Did you know that at the Elite Model Management office in Chicago, they have an open call EVERY DAY at 3:30PM? Did you also know that professional photos are not required, no appointment is necessary and dress is casual? The only requirement is that girls are at least 5ÃÂ7 and guys are at least 5ÃÂ11 and itÃÂs suggested that you wear little or no makeup. IsnÃÂt exciting to know that the opportunities are out there? HOLLYWOOD ÃÂ Technology continues to transform the way business is conducted in the fast paced world of the entertainment industry. These advances are not just helpful for entertainment executives, but also for aspiring dancers, actors, models and singers, many of whom juggle day and night jobs with auditions, rehearsals and gigs. Star Search Casting, the industry's leading casting website, now makes it easier for aspiring performers to stay connected to the industry and get real time casting and audition information while they're on the go. Long gone are the days of receiving information from your agent or a casting director via fax, or even email. Now entertainment industry professionals send everything from casting breakdowns and lyrics to script pages and other audition information to actors, singers, dancers and models via cell phones and PDAs. Star Search Casting was one of the first casting websites to give its members the option of receiving casting calls and audition information via their wireless devices. "When casting and audition information is automatically sent to my Blackberry, I can respond right away," says Jenna Barber, an aspiring actress based in Los Angeles. In addition to helping actors, dancers, singers and models remain connected to the industry via their cell phones and PDAs; Star Search Casting also provides several additional high tech options. Members can upload video and audio clips on their personal Star Search Casting websites to showcase their acting, singing, dancing and modeling talents. Online schemes operating out of Nigeria that have defrauded victims out of tens of millions of dollars have become so pervasive that the U.S. government has given the West African country until November to take steps to decrease such crimes or face sanctions. Financial fraud is now reportedly one of the three largest industries in Nigeria, where the anonymity of the Internet is being used to give crime syndicates a windfall.
This place seems to operate much like John Robert Powers. They sell high priced classes and photo shoots. This site has the story of one of their clients: http://www.modelagencyscamutah.zoomshare.comThis is what she says:"I had the unfortunate expierience of dealing with one agency inparticulare that goes by the name of tru talent management. These people are nothing but snakes in the grass, their so called "agents" (ha-ha) they are con-artist sales people. They know nothing about talent, but they will sure tell you that you have it. Their whole play from the moment you walk in, is to get you to pay money for some bogus classes. I was "so lucky" I got invited to one of their open calls and was told that they only had three open spaces in the agency and they would only be picking people who they know will make money(because thats how they get paid, when you do) thats crap they get 10% of all the money you pay in for classes and crap photography. That comes right from someone who I know that used to work there. They are pressured every month to get as many people as they can in the classes for as much money as they can, if they can't scam enough people they will lose thier job! Any way so i go to this open call were they tell you, you are lucky if you "get picked" and then a friend of mine and I went in to meet with the sales man and he just loved us we could do so good and make so much money but first we need to get to "know what we are doing" He lets us know we are two of the three they will acept tonight. He wants $3000 for the class and photography. Well i fell for it and signed up. I went to the classes for a little while until I got so bored I couldn't stand it the classes were so lame and the "amazing photography" I could get better pics done by my cricket phone. Then I started to notice that they had these open call things all the time, I stayed after class one day and listened to the sales pitch again ...It was exactly the same as the one I was in exactly so I started to talk to the people who were in there and they all came out saying the same thing "they were one of the three and they were acepted" I talked to about thirty people who were "one of the three. Then I wanted out and my money back well after the so-called agent signs you up they don't even know who you are any more, and they sure won't return you phone call, but i can save you all some time stay away and if you are already a victim don't go to the classes they can't bill you for services they don't provide! If you need further help catch me on here and i'd be more than happy!"
While landing a job in the entertainment industry is one of the most fun and exciting opportunities one can have, it's still important to treat it like a job. Whether you're an actor, dancer, singer or model, there are still valuable business strategies that must be applied to your chosen profession. One of those strategies is networking.Networking is defined several ways. One definition is the exchange of information and services between different individuals or businesses. Another is connecting with people with similar interests to uncover opportunities. Both of these are great definitions, and both describe actions you should be engaged in regularly in order to further your career. If you've never networked before, it's easy to do. If you're an aspiring model, dancer, actor or singer, here are some great networking tips that will serve you well in your career:Meet and keep in touch with as many people in the industry as possible Find as many organizations and events as you can that are related to your chosen career. Be sure to attend them regularly. When you meet others in the industry, ask lots of questions. You never know what you'll learn. Be able to communicate what types of opportunities you're looking for so that others will know how to help you. Learn the art of following up. If someone gives you a business card, contact them the next day. Never wait days or weeks, giving them the opportunity to forget who you are. Share information you've learned with others. When you help others, they are likely to help you when they know of opportunities that would benefit you.If you're not sure how to meet people in the industry or find information on opportunities and events that would be great for networking, the internet is a great resource. Websites like Elite Casting Network are great resources for uncovering helpful information and maintaining a dialog with others in the industry who have similar goals. You never know who you could meet! How to Get Cast in the Role of a Lifetime
When we go to the movie theater to watch our favorite actors and actresses in a new film, we’re often blown away by the “magic” that we observe on screen. But there’s a lot of work that’s invested into feature films and just because it looks perfect when we see the end result – that doesn’t meant that it’s the product of a perfect process. In fact, the post-production phase of a film can be very involved and require everyone, even the actors, to help fix flaws that may have occurred during the shooting of the film.

When we're investigating recent scam activity, we often find that new scams are really just revised emails that are being circulated by the same scammers over and over, simply using a different name. Many parents are discovering that this same tactic is used by agencies offline as well. More and more parents are learning that companies who have been investigated for fraudulent activity are now changing the names of their companies to avoid detection. This tactic now requires parents who are researching reputable opportunities for their child actors, models, dancers and singers to dig even deeper to make sure that the agencies and industry professionals that they work with truly have their children's best interest at heart. StudioKidz was an agency in California that recruited children for acting jobs, often in stores such as Wal-Mart and Target. The agency was accused of charging exorbitant fees for classes and training. Later it was discovered that the agency didn't have a license and therefore was never able to legally book acting jobs for any of their clients. When parents began to report the agency to consumer action agencies, the owners decided to change their name to TVKidz so that parents who looked them up online wouldn't come across the large number of complaints that had been filed against them. However, it wasn't long before parents begin to discover that TVKidz was the same agency as StudioKidz, which prompted the owner to change the name of the company again to CommercialKidz. Additionally, she even changed her own name. A watchdog group who has been following the agency's activities has now found information that suggests the owner may even have a previous criminal record. So you see, you can never be too careful when it comes to researching agencies or industry professionals who have expressed an interest in you or your children. It's unfortunate that there are so many individuals out there that lay in wait to take advantage of those new to the industry. However it's important that instead of being discouraged, that we simply do our homework each and every time and stay focused on our goals. Be sure to log in to http://ww.EliteCastingNetwork.com each day to review our Scam alert. We will continue to keep you posted on the latest scam information affecting the entertainment industry, as well as strategies you can use to make sure you don't become a victim. Will you be able to perform as well as youâve rehearsed once you get in the room? Tons of questions and insecurities begin to take over and can cause you to lose focus. One of the best ways to get rid of nervous energy is by being prepared, and knowing the secrets to a great audition. One working actor whoâs been on lots of auditions and whoâs booked roles on shows like Monk, The Bold and the Beautiful, and Sleeper Cell offers the following advice:-Try to memorize your lines so. Itâs okay to keep your sides* in your hand, but donât be held hostage by the script.(Note: âSidesâ is an industry term that refers to the 2 or 3 pages of the script that you will be asked to read from during your audition.)-ALWAYS read over your lines with another ACTOR before you go to your audition.-Try wearing clothing that suggests the character, but donât over do it. If youâre playing a cop donât audition in a police uniform, but something like a blue polo shirt might do the trick.-While in the waiting room, donât feel obliged to chat. If you need time to study your lines or take a few deep breaths to prepare, feel comfortable doing that.-Engage the casting director when you enter the room. Often the conversation that you have with the casting director before you do your scene is what gets you the part.-Once you leave your audition, let it go. There are many reasons why clients are dismayed by their relationship with their agency. Perhaps they are not being sent on auditions frequently or at all.
