Audit policies and procedures are needed to ensure that employees are meeting management objectives, legal and regulatory requirements, and addressing risks. Auditing is covered in the next chapter, so it is only going to be lightly addressed here. Management audits assure that resources are being properly utilized and monitored:
The market has never and will never be a one way ticket to ride (smile Beatles fans). None of the important aspects of the voyage (advances, declines, speed, beginning, or end) are predictable, by anyone, no matter how overpaid or well credentialed. Sooner or later, some gutsy financial gurus will declare the stock market oversold and full of bargains.

This weekend, the 9th until the 11th of September, has the potential to be great. At this point in time the first rains of the upcoming storm are starting to fall. Also, a bunch of idiots and their loyal idiotic idolisers are gearing up for the Advertiser’s favourite time of the year, Showdown. This Showdown will be a special one. The West End Brewery sponsored football game between the two local teams is happening in the Finals. Showdown is the best 2 – 3 hours to go out and enjoy Adelaide. The streets are free from the average pleb and Adelaide seems to shine at the lack of slime that usually covers its pavements. A few weeks ago on a Saturday there was a Showdown and I had the pleasure of riding my bike down South Road with relatively few Commos testosteroning by. The street lights shone brightly and the glowing buildings of the city centre were not screaming at the incest below. Instead, the lights were communicating a warm feeling that was enticing me to explore the city streets. Because buildings are only beautiful in the eye of the beholder they were happy to be free from the ignorance treading on their roots and were expressing their new found joy. The Showdown only happens two times a year but because of the celestial Gods good-will this will be the third time in 2005 that the streets of Adelaide will show their true beauty. However, this time it will coincide with a storm that the Bureau of Meteorology has deemed a Severe Weather Warning. Therefore, the streets will be vacant of all human life and nature will show humans just how fascinating an urban environment can be. For my readers in Adelaide get ready for a great time. Not every year does a Showdown happen in the AFL Finals and I cannot predict when one will coincide with a severe weather warning again. I urge you to take all proper precautions in the storm. Have a radio and a torch with working batteries, tie down anything loose outside, stay away from windows and have the trusty candles ready for a blackout (call the SES on 13 2 500 if you need emergency work and if anyone gets hurt dial 000 ASAP). However, if you are happy all is safe, get on a bus or jump in your car and have a geez around town, or just explore your neighbourhood (but be bloody careful, PLEASE). By getting out there you will be reminded that we also share our urban environments with Mother Nature and she is a behemoth of a housemate. Play it safe, AB
Dear friends, For those who want me to update my blog a short preview of the weekend (work is not interesting yet to really talk about here). This weekend I will move to my new villa (no understatement). I will be moving in with a colleague who is from Germany. To make sure my new house will be comfortable I will visit Merkato (the largest market in Africa) to buy a bed for myself. Further will pay a visit to the Mother Theresa hospital here to meet some Maltese nuns and see the other side of Addis (the non-expat side). On Sunday will go for church, although I have no clue yet where it is and how to get there, but we have had bigger challenges than that. For more info, see after the weekend. Sjoerd
This weekend should hopefully be just as good as the last one! Dan has organised a pool party at our hotel. There will be a bbq, splashing about, pool volleyball, inflatables, and lots of drinking! The prep work started last night when Dan came with us to Walmart to by lilos, rubber rings, a volleyball net, and some wacky noodle things. Tomorrow will be meat buying day and then sat is of course the day. I'll be whapping out my whiteness in all its glory and there will be no tanning, but maybe a little burning! Sunday, once we have recovered, will be the Sun Interns Golf Challenge. We are heading up to the golf course off Whipple to see if those of us who have played before can remember how to and if those who haven't played before can actually do so. Should be a good laugh. I reckon it might be similar to the Sair Heid Open (Sore Head for those who don't know Scottish :-p )that they play at my local back home on New Years Day. My dad plays that most years and i believe there are many who don't finish...
I've been here a week now, and Ieva, our next MC member is arriving. I'm looking forward to meeting her after all the hours spent chatting on the internet at home. We were planning at one time to come on the same flight from Amsterdam, but weren't able to coordinate it properly. We're all off to the airport later to meet her. I fear this will be the first of my many trips to San Jose airport!!!!
Today we will be 5 of 6. Zana will be arriving this evening from Slovakia. We will be picking her up from the airport and going straight to Santa Ana where Teia lives and works in Aldeas SOS. We will be going straight into our transition weekend with Crista and Carlos and Teia as outgoing MC and Teia, Ieva, Zana, Alejandro and myself as incoming. Ruth (no. 6) will only be arriving on 1 August as she has been in South Africa for the past semester and needs a couple of weeks turnaround time in the Netherlands before flying out to join us. Crista will be leaving in the middle of July, so it is really important that we get the overall picture before she goes. My transition with her has been going really well. We are almost finished now, except for this last overall picture.
